Hey, I can't stand my GEIL value RAM, so I want to get something else that is completely reliable. I was looking into Kingston's value series, is this stuff reliable? I do a little gaming, but mostly just Mp3's and web.

Kingston and Crucial are both very solid when it comes to stability. If you're not gonna overclock its fine. If you are, get some Hyper-X.

I disagree, the only Kingston ram I've bought will not run at rated speed. I also have a friend with a computer shop that finds Kingston to be the most unreliable ram.

My company uses mostly Kingston and probably put 40-50 sticks a week into PC's and have never had a problem.

Kingston is good in the field of Hyper X but Value ram is a bit more iffy ( i have heard good things too however )...

Which one are you referring to?

Kingston RAM isn't too bad... However, ordering Crucial RAM online is often cheaper -- and I've NEVER IN MY LIFE had a bad stick of Crucial. So needless to say, they have a loyal customer for life...

Never had any problems with my old stick of Kingston PC2100 DDR. Still running strong in one of the many rigs.

My Kingston PC2100-R is running well. I had a Corsair DIMM die on me, but the Kingston is still going. Corsair did replace the module for free though. Best RMA ever.

I've used Kingston, often Valueram series, since the PC-66 SDRAM days. Never a bad stick, nor one that went bad. ALL work to their RATED value, most worked reasonably faster than they were rated just fine. And they have some kick butt rebates from time to time, which they've always paid

I'm not sure it was Crucial's fault, but my sister ordered ram from them specifically for her motherboard (shuttle). She had it replaced twice before switching brands to one that would run stable.

Are you sure you get a real Kingston ram?

We use all Kingston at work and none of or comps have any problems with it whatsoever. Install and forget.

Only a short while ago I would have had no issues with Kingston RAM and highly recommended them. I have ValueRam in one of my systems and have put it in systems I've purchased. My opinion of Kingston dropped when a few weeks ago I got two bad sticks of ValueRam from Newegg. I've since RMA'd them and gotten two new ones that I have yet to test. I was very disappointed in the fact I had not only one but two bad sticks.

I adore their HyperX and will still recommened that all day long but as for their ValueRam line which seems to use any chips they can get their hands on, I am through. I will only buy Corsair or Crucial for work and customer builds and HyperX for higher performance machines.

Maybe I'm being too harsh but that delay caused me to sit around with a customer's machine for a few weeks (happened to be one of the owners of the company I am with).

As far as PC3x00 DDR, ValueRAM was priced significantly less (by 1/3) a few months ago but now is the same price as HyperX. Sometimes the same parts are used but the HyperX are supposedly tested for tighter timings or overclocking and have the SPD set as such. RAM with Winbond BH-5 and CH-5 chips are being sold at a wide range of specs and prices by several manufacturers.

Reliable: yes. Never had a stick not work, and just counting in my head, I can come up with over two dozen machines and just under 50 sticks, from 128MB PC133 to 512MB PC3200.
OCable: Not much. Get Hyper-X for that.

Stay away from ANY RAM that has "Value" in its name!
Sure I've went down the cheap road like everybody else and couldn't pass up the price on "Value" memory. But I've lived to regret it.

It's your system memory for crying out loud... spend a couple of bucks extra and get quality RAM.

Well I can get a very good deal, on Kingston Value RAM, and people really haven't said it's that bad. So I guess I will buy some and see how it performs.

No problem if you're patient and the return policy covers return shipping.

I had to return a defective stick of Kingston (PC2100) Value RAM this week. The replacement works fine. I don't like the idea of nameless silicon on the modules.
. They at least used to use name brand silicon they were proud to display. And when they had to make their own modules, they assembled a lot of them here in the US.
. The one I had to return and its replacement were assembled in China... I used to occasionally find 100% Samsung modules in Kingston packages. But when the stuff is $10. AR, ...
. For consistently reliable, go with 100% Samsung, Crucial or reputable boutique stuff: Mushkin, Corsair, etc.
