Hi all,

This is my first attempt at OC'ing on a new build. Specs are below:

CPU: i7 930
Heatsink: Corsair H50
Mobo: Gigabyte x58A-UD5 269
Ram: G.SKILL PI Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
PSU: CMPSU-950TX 950W
GPU 1: Gigabyte GTX 480
GPU 2: Gigabyte GT 240
TV Tuner: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR
Boot Drive: 1 TB Samsung
Case: Xclio Windtunnel Bought

What do you all think of my settings below? Where can I improve? I know vcore is kinda highish for this clock speed...but I'm 6 hours into Prime95 and peak temp is 63.

Thanks.

Looks pretty good so far. All CPUs are different and some need more voltage than others. Mine needs 1.4V for 4GHz...you're doing fine and your temps are very low. Keep pushing it Check the link in my sig for my complete guide

Whoops, there's a problem, ET6 on my mobo is underreporting temps vs real temps:

Which app do I believe? I haven't had the chance to calibrate realtemps yet...still running prime.

Thanks.

I won't operate my i7 if it gets above 80c during stress testing. 80c is the max for me. Some guys are okay with 85c but it's your call. I'd say go for 3.6-3.8 at a much lower voltage.

Intel's specs state 100C max....I've run mine in the upper 90s many times, it's perfectly safe!

Also, keep in mind that stress tests put a synthetic load on the CPU that it will rarely see in daily operation, so even if it's hitting 80 during such testing, it'll rarely (if ever) get that hot normally

I wouldn't operate a chip daily at 80C. That isn't to say you should change your overclock though - if your normal usage never really gets the CPU working hard (most games, daily browsing/word processing, etc.), then it doesn't matter if it gets much hotter under prime95, so enjoy the speed. However, if you plan to run F@H, I'd recommend reducing your power consumption/heat output or increasing your cooling.
