I'm picking out parts for a new system. I've narrowed the Mobo either Asus's K8N-E or MSI's K8N Neo Plat. I'm I won't be OCing my system, but I want a good heatsink as I live in Mississippi and it's HOT here.

I think I'm going to go with the Thermal Take Venus12. It looks like a good HS, a solid chunk of copper and a good fan. I've also looked into a Thermalright or Zalman heatsinks, but I'm worried about having to remove the stock back plate to install these.

Anything I should know about the Venus12 ?

Mine works swell; I installed the front controller and adjust the fan depending on the day's temperature. I'm no hardcore overclocker though so sadly I can't provide a lot more info.

I used Shin Etsu G751 instead of the generic tape that came with it. A few sites also had instructions; here's one:

Good article. The main reason I decided on the venus12 is it appears easier to install that the thermalright and zalmon. It just clips to the stock front plate no worrying about removing the stock back plate.

I bought one but I wasn't satisfied with the fan. SO, I took it off and strapped a Tornado 80mm on it with a Coolermaster AeroGate fan controller Pretty good heatsink though.

When you crank the fan up all the way, be prepared for a loud system. I used one of these for a day and it was tolerable at half speed or below. It really didn't cool all that much more than stock or a Zalman CNPS 7000A-ALCU. I returned mine and got my money back. YMMV...

I have one and like it a lot. I use the thermal control feature. If you run it manually, it makes a LOT of noise on high speed. With the thermal control option, my CPU never heats up too much, and I don't hear the fan over my PSU fans. I am running a 3000+ overclocked by 15% (not an extreme amount).
