How's the Wii online enviroment?

Thinking about trading a laptop of mine for a Wii..

I've never been big into consoles really so I'm out of the loop.

I saw they have games like Far Cry and CoD3. Are these games popular online?

What about Mario Party 8, is that online?

LMK as I'm kind of curious how well the Wii is doing.

As of now, Wii online is pretty much non-existent. Not sure if Mario Party 8 is has online capability, but if so it would be the first online Wii game.

It's pretty disappointing, actually.

Mine wont' even connect. It took me forever to get it connected at my last house. and now that i've moved and am using a different router, it doesn't work at all.

Channel 1 and 11 work best I believe.

Even the Opera browser is pretty disappointing. I just got Mario Party 8 and have not try it online.

yeap. at first i was excited about it. but its a huge letdown. hopefully they do something with it. otherwise its pretty damn usless.

Yes, i had to mess around with my last router, even had to turn off the encryption to get it to connect. But at my new place I do not have access to the router settings. I tried using a static ip and manually entering in the WPA key and everything, but it just errors out. Pretty lame if you ask me.

Don't online games still require you to enter in a 16-digit code for each game you want to play online, AND another code for each friend you want to play with?

mario strikers works excellently online. Im in the US (modded wii) and playing solely against people in europe with very very little to no lag at all. As of right now, nintendos servers are holding up quite well, itll be interesting to see how they do once pokemon stadium and strikers are released in the US.

I can't assist with that as I don't have any experience with the online gaming portion of the Wii.

To get started, I know you and your friend will have to exchange Wii #s.

I can't assist with that as I don't have any experience with the online gaming portion of the Wii.

To get started, I know you and your friend will have to exchange Wii #s.

i'm not talking about playing 007 online. as in 4 of my friends all on the same wii.

prolly not because its a rare owned game and i dont know if they'll put that in the virtual console and 2: friend codes are a bizatch...

Goldeneye isn't available on the Virtual Console. The N64 section only has 4 games right now.

Honestly the online is not that great right now. You can use the Shop Channel/Forecast Channel/News Channel/Internet Channel/Everybody Votes Channel, oh and download updates. Thats really it right now. I have exchanged some Mii's with one of my friends. I hope the online picks up. Hopefully Smash Brothers Brawl makes full use of the online.

A few online games are coming out in June/July I think.

There was some press release (I think on IGN?) where someone from Nintendo was saying no online games for Wii until 2008.
