This HP laptop is on special, it's an AMD Vision. the 3½-year-old laptop it will replace had a Mobile Turion ML-32 CPU. I don't care about the HDD size since it'll always be plugged in a 1.5 TB external HDD. Sells for 380$ cdn and we're around 98¢ cdn to the us dollar.

Or am i just looking at a glorified netbook with the power of an Atom CPU ?

Yeah, an E-300 (and E-350 on the desktop) are basically AMD's answer to Atom. (A little better than Atom, but similar.) This machine would be fine for light use, web browsing, and watching movies.

What are you looking for, what's your budget, and do you want this thread in the SFF, Notebooks, Pre-Built/Barebones PCs forum?

ok, bothered shopping a bit. That's not a deal. Thanks for the answers, i'll probably just wait for a good deal on an i3 or i5 system.

Lenovo Canada had a deal for x120e (E350) for $377, which IMO is much better than a really cheap HP. Check the lenovo site to see if they still have the holiday deals going on.

If you're willing to spend over $400, you might be better off going with a real laptop though. 14-15" laptops you'll usually get more power per dollar by a long shot.

zCypher, Futureshop has an i3-370m w/ 6GB ram at 369.99$.
plenty of deals like that, i hadn't shopped much
