How does this look? (all prices are Canadian)

Case: LIAN-LI PC-V1000 (anyone know where to find the V1200 in Canada?) NCIX - $262.20
PSU: OCZ POWERSTREAM 520 WATT NCIX - $165.53
Video Card: BFG GEFORCE 6800 GT OC PCI-E 256MB NCIX - $613.73
Sound Card: Creative Labs Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS A-Power - $115
RAM: Corsair CMX512-3200C2 x 2 A-Power - $290
HD: Maxtor 200GB HD 7200rpm 16MB (SATA) A-Power - $165
Drive1: LiteOn 16x DVD ROM A-Power - $34
Drive2: LiteOn 52x32x52 A-Power - $35 (does the make of these drives really make a difference?)
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ A-Power - $255
MOBO: DFI LANPARTY NF4 SLI-DR NCIX - $259.98
Monitor: VIEWSONIC P95F+B 19IN NCIX - $339.00
Mouse: Logitech MX510 A-Power - $52
Keyboard: Logitech Elite keyboard A-Power - $43

Total: $2629.44 (about $2997.56 with taxes)(no shipping cause they're very close I'll just pick the parts up).

A-Power is my local computer place and most of their prices beat NCIX.

So how does this look? Any suggestions or answers to my questions would be great. (oh and no I haven't been stupid and got all this stuff before I get any feedback. )

My internet connection is VERY flaky right now so I can't check prices, but I bought that same monitor (in white) for $254 shipped from Newegg in October of '03. Also, that monitor is not that great, text isn't that good, read some reviews about it. HTH

Once again the prices are in CDN so the difference between the monitor prices is only about $8. But thanks for the input, i'll do some checking for a better monitor.

See what they have by NEC\Mitsubishi for monitors
If the price difference is less than $20 more for a Seagate, get the Seagate.

Doh, I'm a dummy, it was late. But yeah, it kind of sucked, I happened to read some reviews right after I bought mine. You can only tell if you look hard though. HTH

what I really find hard to understand is why folks will spend money on audio card, I mean most new mobo's today come with more than decent on board audio (8-chan ain't enough?!), which most of us don't have the speakers to get the maximum out of as it is... so why spend more $$$? either save it, or get a better CPU or GPU...

Your system looks good. Of course I'd go with an ATI Radeon X800 XT but, then again, I'm a little biased. I'd go with a 21" CRT monitor as the prices have gone down considerably. You'll want a big monitor especially for on-line gaming. It gives you an edge, that's for sure.

I am looking to upgrade my cpu and motherboard soon. I am leaning towards getting either the AMD A64 3200+ or 3500+. But I am not sure about the motherboard. Does it make sense to get a SLI board if I am not planning on playing games with the system?

No, get an Nforce4 Ultra and save yourself some money. The DFI one got a very good review at Anandtech.com

you sort of answered your own question... Yeah, sure get SLI, this way you can throw more money and have a louder system... heh, if you're not gaming, there's no need whatsoever for SLI

I'm still looking into another monitor, but thanks for the input so far guys.

Ribbon13 - A 200MB Seagate is actually the same price as the Maxtor at $165. I was under the impression that the 16MB cache made a considerable difference in the drive's speed making it almost as fast as a Raptor. Please correct me if I'm wrong which I seem to be judging by your comment.

DrCrap - As for the sound card, I actually already have it for my current system, I just put it in there to show the price because i thought it was a decent deal and so I could calculate the total price.

ScrewFace - I like ATI too, my current system has one, but I wanted to get a really good video card and it is my understanding that nVidia is doing slightly better than ATI atm and I've also read some really good things about BFG.

J Heartless Slick - If you're not planning on playing games then there is no need for SLI unless you want the bragging rights .

Thanks for the help, keep it coming.

I used the onboard soundcard but the sound quality was poor with distortion and fan noise. I put in a soundcard which fixed the problem.

The Maxtor's might be slightly faster, but the build quality of the Seagate's is far superior, and the warranty is longer.

And whoever said the Maxtor is faster than a raptor is likely quoteing one benchmark out of thirty...
