I've been stockpiling canned goods. I double or triple what I'd normally get, and squirrel it away. I need to build some shelves to hold my stuff, and make it easier to see what I have.

My experience is that canned goods are fine indefinitely, even stuff I personally can. I opened a jar of plum jam I made a month before 911 a couple weeks ago. It's like I canned it yesterday. I canned it hot enough to kill any fungus spores and evidently bacteria aren't interested.

I have personally-canned tomato sauces from the 20th century on my shelves!

Yes, and no. Home canning will keep longer as long as the jars are kept upright. I've had plenty of store canned foods breach the can, and leak everywhere. I've also eaten food that hadn't breached yet, but tasted very much like can.

I don't go by the stamped date. Sometimes they last many years past that, but everything gets examined before consumption.

Same, an interruption in the supply chain seems increasingly likely in the next couple years.

Found a decent whole bean coffee at Grocery Outlet. 2#/$11. I'm starting to hoard coffee, and trying to find the ones I particularly like. This one's a winner for sure. I'm currently at ~10# stocked. Not sure when I should cut it off; maybe 20#?

How are your local prices? My local grocery store is &7.99 a dozen. Walmart's box of 60 eggs is $28. They went from $5 for the longest time ($4.98!), to $7.98, then had a HUGE price jump. I go through a LOT of eggs on a weekly basis

I get my eggs from a farm, so I don't always notice what the grocery store prices are, but eggs at aldi last week were $5.69/dz. Aldi is is always waaaay cheaper than a regular store, so I'd guess $7+ is what they're running in standard markets.

I keep a case of SPAM on standby. That stuff makes the twinkie look like an amateur.

I actually LOVE Spam! My friend went to school in Hawaii & introduced me to Spam, Rice, and Eggs. Also, Spam Musubi!

I just bought six 46oz tins of coffee, and 6 rolls of toiletpaper. Combined with what I already had, I have over a year's supply of coffee. I have a bunch of toiletpaper, but covid let me know people are idiots, so I'm making sure I have a good supply on hand. Over a year going by memory. A roll lasts about a month.

The rest of my stuff was non hoard related :^D Going to the discount stores tomorrow, so more canned goods and shelf stable stuff.

Spam rocks. I always have some in the cabinet, and I've been stocking up on that too. Aldi's brand is sometimes actual spam, and sometimes a like product from Daneland. I notice no substantive differences between them. $1.85/can is current price I believe. That's half of branded spam.

I got my Costco 50% off bidet a few years ago, that's been awesome!

I'm getting more into pressure canning as well (separate gadget from a pressure cooker). Stuff like shelf-stable canned chicken has a 3 YEAR shelf life!

I just made 20 year old Italian sausage for breakfast :^D Found it in the freezer the other day. It honestly wasn't great, but it's edible. Boiled them, then made eggs with cajun seasoning. I've had worse. Still better than burger king breakfast :^D
