Mods, please don't lock this. I got tired of looking through the ~200 posts of the last thread, and decided to start a new thread to keep users informed about what was happening with this UPC code problem.

Here is the obscenely long reference thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=184287

I haven't heard back yet, but I too was confused about which UPC codes to send in. I remember there were actually two bar code things on the E-Stamp software box (v1.1) as well as on the printer box (from side and bottom). To play it safe, I sent in all FOUR UPC codes, and for the one from the side of the printer box, I sent in the entire thing (with serial number, etc.). I'll let you guys know what happens. I mailed in my rebate around 6/23. Keeping my fingers crossed...

People who got the letter saying wrong upc code: have you called to bitch at them yet? I'd like to see their response since some people have already gotten their rebates using(presumably) the same upc codes.

You can find a copy of the UPC symbols I mailed in for the rebate here ---> http://tmpstore.tripod.com/Rebate_UPC.GIF.

Pay no attention to the size of the image. It was scanned at 300 dpi, but looks about 4x larger due to the screen resolution of ~72 dpi.

Note that I *did* get a letter that said I had sent incorrect or too few UPC symbols.

IBhacknU -

Which UPC? The top UPC is the one from the side of the printer box (the same as shown in your graphic), and the bottom UPC is the one from the bottom of the e-Stamps.com software package.

BTW, pay no attention to the size of the image. It was scanned at 300 dpi, but looks about 4x larger due to the screen resolution of ~72 dpi.

Ok, I'm getting worried here... Some of us have been denied or do we still have time to re-submit?

No offense, but some of you guys must be brain dead!
Have you guys ever sent in rebates before??

There is only one on my e-stamp box (v1.1) - on the bottom of the box.
The one on the printer is the big one on the side of the box with the serial numbers. I've even seen people ask, "Is it the one on the box that the software was shipped in" or "the UPS label"? WTF??

Come on guys, wake up!!
Especially when we're dealing with $175!!

With that said, now I'm just praying I get my rebate soon!! HeHe!

Read the last 25 or so posts. Why are we still dicussing this as if we had no clues why wlj's and wjones' rebates were rejected? Look at the picture posted by IBhacknU. http://www.webmaui.com/pics/upc.jpg They sent in the part of the printer sticker that has only the UPC code, without the rest that has the model #, serial # and place of manufacture, etc. The UPC's what's required but most people sent in the whole sticker anyway.

OK, Here's the deal -- I just spoke with a very friendly and helpful person at Gage Marketing (888/580-9819). She indicated that the criteria that they're using to fulfill the rebate is 1) the e-Stamp software UPC symbol starting with the digits '64644', and 2) the printer "UPC symbol" containing the printer model number in the upper left hand corner.

So, it appears that they consider the entire block of four bar codes, only one of which is actually the UPC symbol, to be the "UPC symbol" needed to fulfill this rebate. Based upon this info, you will likely get a rejection letter even if you sent in the four bar codes but left out the printer model number located in the upper left corner. See IBhacknU's picture to see what I'm talking about.

The CSR at Gage made a notation in my customer record of my call and story, and indicated that I should mail back all of my information to:

e-Stamp
Dept #590-011
5130 Industrial Street
City of Maple Plain, MN 55359

including a letter of explanation.

I intend to include a copy IBhacknU's graphic (hope you don't mind) to show that the UPC symbol I remitted was a subset of the larger panel that they're evidentally looking for.

If you're in the same boat as I am, I would suggest that you call the 888 number above and 'clear' with them that you'll be writing a letter.

I did indicate to the person on the phone that there were at least a few other people that made the same 'mistake' of exactly following the rebate directions like I did. <grin>

Hope this helps...

Look, this was debated too when it went. The safest thing to do was send THIS in: http://www.webmaui.com/pics/upc.jpg for the printer. It only makes sense that they want the serial number and to confirm the Model Number...

I think it is already clear from wlj getting a rejection that if you sent only part of that sticker, you didn't send enough. May as well get on the phone to them or put it in the mail now. Keep a copy too

There is no reason to think they are trying to screw us, the directions could have been more clear, but most people got it right... if you didn't THEN fix it... you should still get your rebate!

As for people who already sold their printer and stuff, that is just plain foolish. Hopefully you got $175 for it and aren't out anything It wasn't like e-stamp did the damn deal for you to sell the printer, I think it was pretty clear that they wanted you to use their software! Sure some people bitch and moan, but this is a damn good printer and the price was very competitive in the first place. This was one of the best deals of the year.

Has everyone recieved some sort of a response about the rebates already?

I sent my rebate in a day before the deal ended. I haven't had a chance to use the estamp software yet, but I don't remember it being a clause that I needed to use it.

On the otherhand, I haven't recieved a check for $175. Nor have I recieved a rejection email/snail-mail. Can someone post the 1-800# you guys were using to call about this?

mrVW -

I'm sorry if I've given you the impression that e-Stamp is trying to screw me/us out of the rebate. That was neither my intention nor my belief. I fully anticipate getting my rebate following my submission of a written explanation to the fulfillment center, in accordance with the advice Gage's CSR gave me.

However, it doesn't "only make sense" that they wanted the entire block of bar codes. They asked for only the UPC symbol from the printer. As for the model number of the printer, that should be indicated by the UPC symbol as each model has a unique UPC symbol/number. For those that like triva, UPC stands for Universal Product Code.

In the past I've had a rebate rejected for "not following the terms of the promotion" because I had sent more information than was requested. (Note: I did eventually receive this rebate after resumbitting it without the extraneous info, like extra receipts and bar codes )

Based upon this other reject experience, it seems just as likely to me that they would reject a rebate for including the four printer bar codes as it is that they would reject it for only including the UPC symbol that the rebate asked for.

wlj, I just re-read your message above. Are you saying that we may get rejected for sending more than they asked for? I mean, I sent what you see in my photo, the software UPC, and the rebate form. Surely this is what they wanted. No letter yet, but I submitted mine a few days later than you.

If I understand you correctly, the 'UPC' you sent had the Printer name cut from the top left of the sticker.

^^^^^^^^^EDIT^^^^^^^^^^^^

wlj and anyone else...

FYI, according to the HP site, the model number C6427Z (which is right above the first barcode on the side of the box sticker), is for the DeskJet 930C model.

http://www.hp.com/cposupport/printers/support_doc/bpd07406.html

If you only sent in the four bar codes, but happened to cut off the printer model number in the upper left hand corner, you should still be OK. Sounds like those folks at the rebate center are going to take care of you anyway.

By the way, folks, for those of you with backordered products (just received my eStamps software the other day), the rebate submission deadline has been extended to AUGUST 15th. I was scared shirtless when I saw the July 15th deadline that someone mentioned (I forgot the date) -- I called the number listed above and was told that without prompting that they had extended the date.

Whew!

IBhacknU -

The CSR I spoke with said that their only criteria for verifying the printer purchased was that the printer model number (e.g., DJ930C) must be printed in the top left corner of the "UPC symbol". The woman indicated that if this was missing, then the rebate would be rejected because it doesn't meet their acceptance criteria. If it's rejected because of this, you will need to call, write a letter, etc.

Based upon what I was told, the 'C6427Z' model number (plus other bar codes) would not meet their acceptance criteria, just as the printer UPC symbol which also uniquely identifies the printer model does not meet their acceptance criteria.

I did not say that *this* rebate would be rejected because of sending too much information. I said that I once had a *previous* rebate for another product rejected for sending too much information. I offered this in explanation to mrVW as to why I had "only" sent the information that the rebate requested (e.g., receipt, rebate form, e-Stamp.com software UPC, printer UPC) and not packing slips, four bar codes from the printer box, etc.

I hope that this clears things up...

Does anyone else think this is total BS? The rebate form clearly states "original UPC barcode from the side of the HP DeskJet printer box".

It says "UPC barcode" not barcodes!

I don't think we should all have to give them another month with our money due to their screw up.

Anyways, I'm just venting.
