Ok then, stupid question of the day, why is only $329 if it is $449 at HP.com?
With 2 day shipping it is still under $400, seems like a nice computer for that kind of money.

HP has to sell them for more otherwise retailers won't buy from them. They wouldn't be able to compete with their own source's price.

I know this computer is quite a bit better, but the Acer costs only $150 when purchased with a monitor.
Does it say what kind of mobo it has anywhere?

Help me decide on which one, thx.

Id say that the HP @ outpost is a much better deal. The Acer deal is also with a 17" LCD, not a 19".

Saka, am trying to figure out the same thing. Go to Tomshardware.com and look at the CPU charts. The 3700 is 20-30% faster on just about every test. So the question become is the 3700 woth the extra $200.

I guess a good plan would be to get the cheap one and then add an X2 down the line as more dual CPU optimized games and programs come out.

Well you can upgrade to a 19" VS or Acer which is less than 200 AR there is also a 40 off 200 coupon floating around.

YMMV, I guess the Acer deal is better if you are short on cash, but the HP packs a punch for some extra dollas fo teh bollas.

Well you get the Acer for computer for only $150, can add an X2 3800 for $150 right now, and then 512 ram for I don't know how much and end up with better computer (except hard drive space)
Athlon 3700 is only $100, I am sure 512 ram is less than or around $50.

Acer seems to make more sense to me, and you get to walk home and set it up
Acer really makes sense if you can pick a non-acer monitor. Can get my a viewsonic or samsung 20" for around $300-320 and cheap computer for games.

The 3700 isn't the only thing making the difference though. 200GB hd vs 160GB, 1GB vs 512mb, Lightscribe DVD+/-RW vs CDRW/DVD Rom, MCE vs Xp Home. Etc

The Acer is a decent budget system, but IMO the HP is a better deal.

Good find OP. For those interested, HP lists the Motherboard as an Asus A8AE-LE using the ATI Radeon Xpress 200 chipset.

Anyone know how much shipping is ? I got in on the acer deal with 19" viewsonic ws. AR it'll be $295 w/tax. But this sounds even better
since I already have another monitor.

A few small differences.

- I believe the Acer has gigabit and the HP has 10/100.
- Drive Bays:
Acer: Two 5.25", four 3.5", plus one floppy drive
HP: Two 5.25" external, three 3.5"
- I don't know how Acer's support is like, but HP's is notoriously bad.
- The Acer may not be available at most stores anymore.

I'd go with the Acer due to its NForce4 based mobo than the HP's Radeon Xpress. Also, as someone already mentioned, the AMD dual core processors are very cheap right now, so, it makes a lot more sense to go with the Acer and then upgrade the CPU/RAM for a little more than the price difference between the two. The upgraded Acer would be a much better machine than this HP. Plus you're getting a monitor with the Acer.

Everyone's experience is different, but my brother recently got a HP computer. It had some glitch with the video card, and they sent him out new PC with RMA info for the old one (just return in new PC's box).

No hiccups, no problems. Granted it wasnt perfect to begin with, but that canhappen.

And for anyone who leans that way, HP offers a 2 year warranty for $100. Most people will probably laugh at this, but there are some who prefer the piece of mind.

Not including the case or other fiddly bits, the components alone come to about $465 through Newegg. So $329 not too shabby.
