HP Desktop i5-6400 Cannot Go Higher than 1080p Resolution

I'm using the built-in video card (HD Graphics 530) which should support 2560 x 1440 on my Dell U2711 monitor. Problem is the highest resolution available for me to choose is 1920x1080. Connection is through HDMI as this is the only option. I updated to latest video card drivers already. Any ideas?

Pehaps the mobo has a limitation on the output res.

That HDMI port may be limited on either end. According to Dell, the monitor accepts HDMI, DisplayPort, VGA, DVI. Is this an OEM system (HP, Dell, etc.)? I've never seen a computer with only one video output before, so if you have any others I would recommend trying them. VGA can easily do 1440p 60Hz.

This is an OEM HP Pavilion 560-P015 PC. I'm using the built in Intel 530 graphics card. Actually, there are 2x HDMI ports on the motherboard. Both can only up to 1920x1080. HP support is saying that the graphics card is too new for the monitor?

Sounds like the "HDMI" port is really a DVI port.

Your monitor should support it, so either you have a crap HDMI cable or perhaps the wrong or not latest driver from Intel for that on board video.

I tried the Intel drivers, but it wouldn't let me install since they were not verified with my HP PC. Anyway, I've given up an put in PCIe video card. 1440p works fine now.
