just wondering how hot is this laptop since it's using the AMD chipset?

My friend who has Presario 700 US says that it's hot when he runs the laptop without the adapter.

wonder if this applies to all the AMD laptop or just that Presario

If anybody knows, please post on this thread or PM me

thanks

well i got suckered into the compaq presario 723rsh deal (1ghz duron) and the thing runs hotter than a mofo and randomly restarts becuase it gets so hot. I'm planning on dumping it on eBay for a lil bit more than I paid for it D) after rebates. I dunno if the Athlons runas hot though.

thanks for the info. Yes, I am kinda wondering but I guess I have to skip the AMD thing because of the hot issue.

I have P4 based laptop and I think it's hot already so my imagination telling me that the AMD laptop would run hotter.

thanks for the info

That's not a bad deal, but I'm not sure about athlons' heat issues. I picked up a Compaq 1720us from staples about a couple of weeks ago with the 1GHz pentium 3 m series (no heat issues and better battery life) for a little more than that with rebate, but it came with a cdrw/dvd combo and 256 megs of ram. Of course, the anandtechie in me had to jump on a deal even though I didn't need it, so of course I'm Egaying it. LOL.

Tempting to buy this one too... must resist...

How does it compare to BB's Toshiba deal? ($999 - $150MIR)?

I'm shopping for a budget notebook right now and cannot find anything even close to that Staples HP deal back in Feb.
Then I've got 1Gig Celeron for less than $730 after $100MIR (which came really fast btw)

Considering that it has a bigger display, 50% more disk, 4x the RAM, and a DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive, this one sounds like the better deal (WinXP probably doesn't run on 128 MB RAM...maybe it walks, but I doubt that it runs ).

Must...resist...must...not...give...in...

yea, but the refurbished unit only has a 90 day warrenty. You can increase the warrenty for $99 to two years through eCosts's partnership with Service NET.

Maybe I should have posted this deal earlier. I bought this same laptop over a week ago for $100 less. $850

My local staples had this laptop in the flier for $899 after rebates. I ordered it online with a $50 off coupon then called and PMed it local. I did have to fight some to get them to though. They eventually credited my card the $114 difference.

You can go to staples.com and go to weekly specials at the top left. You can use my zipcode if it's not on yours. 33556 It will be there but I'm not sure how much longer. Maybe till Sunday?

Good luck. It arrived yesterday and I'm happy with it. It might need more ram. I'll see.

Stay away from that Toshiba, I nearly bought it. Go to amazon and read the reviews on the 1805 series of Satellites. About 25% of the people have problems with it just shutting down, track pad not working, windows explorer not reading cds, etc. In OT there was a thread yesterday about a lawsuit against toshiba for making assy notebooks. You've been warned.

I can't seem to find the ZE1201 in the flier using your zip code, but I did find this laptop for $699 after rebate. Here are the specs:

RECOMMENDED BUILD YOUR OWN NOTEBOOK INCLUDES:
AMD Duron? Processor 1.2GHz (1200MHz)
? 256MB SDRAM
? 20.0GB Hard Drive
? DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
? 14.1" TFT XGA Screen
? 56K Modem/10/100
Ethernet Card
? 6-cell Lithium-ion Battery
? $1199 - $100 mail-in rebate - $200 instant savings - $200 MSN instant savings* = $699
HP 1202/SKU 492605. Pre-configured.

only problem is that there is one of those crappy $200 MSN "sign-up-for-crappy-msn-service-for-$520-and-save-$200-deals" So I guess it's $899 which is not a bad deal.

Well that sucks. Sorry I guess it ended. I swear it was in sundays paper that's on the way to the recycle place.

That Duron looks like a good deal though. Is it a XP duron though? meaning does it run cooler? Also it doesn't say "powernow" which is what you want in a laptop right?

Beware of broad generalizations! I bought a Toshiba Satellite 4 months ago. It has run perfectly....

That HP 1202 sounds like a good deal at $899. Is it possible to use any of the $40 coupons with it. The web site doesn't list the $200 instant savings.
