Fellas, WHICH IS THE BETTER DEAL? I think both are quite good. I need a new comp, don't play high end games, just Warcraft III and Starcraft 2 in the hopefully near future. I do alot of video editing. Which is the best system for me?

Thanks for the reply. Does it matter that I don't do much gaming? I'll just be playing Warcraft III and Starcraft 2.

Is there much of a difference between the CPU's listed for video editing and multi-tasking?

Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with video editing, but if you plan on playing Starcraft 2 (like I will be ) then you will REALLY want the 9800 GT that is included in the first option. Especially if you will be running the game at any resolution greater than say 1024x768.

Fixed. I hope it works. HP's site keeps resetting itself.

Hrm.......Do you know the system requirements for Starcraft 2? I was gonna wait til it releases...hopefully this xmas to buy a new system to play it. I highly doubt my x1300 can handle it.

I just think this is a pretty hot deal and am tempted to buy now. Most of DELL's outlet desktops with the Q6600 + 8800GT goes for $800.

This comp is new and has the 9800GT for 100 bucks less.

Isn't the 9800GT with 1 gig ram equivalent in performance to the 512mb 8800GT?

Thanks for the input guys. I decided to go for this option, based on the CPU. Skimped a lot on the vid card but I like the Q9450.

Total price with tax is $700.36 out the door.

A d5000t with Q9550 looks attractive. An m9300t is a better option if you want more bells and wistles (like a TV tuner or an upgraded video/sound) and don't mind a slower processor. You can even slap a Blu-Ray burner on it and still be in the $600 range.

I've always been a Dell Junkie cause they were cheaper on average and have always been stable for me.

I ended up picking up the 2.13Ghz Core2Duo that was on SD last Fall. I've been happy with the system. I hope I see a deal on these again in the next year or so...I may stick with HP. I've been very happy with the system...it's solid on XP MCE 2005 and Vista 64 Ultimate both.

This is very tempting. Anyone know how the PSU is? I see it's 430 watts (IIRC) but was wondering about the amps.

Question for those who have the PC in hand or can help on the following decision between the M9300T and d5000z model. My setup will be used for Home Theater/Gaming and will have the same config below for either model. Keep in mind I will be dumping the 9500GS (required for ATI Digital Tuner) and putting in an ATI 4750 or similar. Would both cases have room for the 4750 or similar since it's a two slot design? I may have to swap out the power supply anyways on either model due to the video requirements (6-pin/ 8-pin PCI Express supplementary power connector). Am I better off with the M9300T if I can change out the power supply and have the room for the video card? I?ll be utilizing the onboard sound with along with the HDMI out on the video card.
Differences from what I can dig up on the case/motherboards used for d5000z vs. M9300T:
The d5000z comes in at $200.00 bucks more for the same config with a 500 gig hard drive standard, has an ATX case, ATX motherboard with the same G33 chipset, better cooling (top fan etc.), has an extra PCI slot and two additional PCI express slots, 460 watt power supply versus 350, quick release expansion slots and 2 extra hard drive bays (4 total).

Vista Home Premium SP11 for digital cable tuner (32-bit)
Q9450 (2.66GHz)
3GB DDR2-800MHz dual channel
GeForce 9500GS, DVI-I, VGA, HDMI edit
Networking No Modem edit
Hard drive 320GB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
LightScribe 16X max. DVD+/-R/RW SuperMulti drive
Front Productivity Ports 15-in-1 memory card reader, 2 USB, 1394, video, audio
TV & entertainment experience ATI TV Wonder external digital cable tuner + internal TV tuner
Sound Card Integrated 7.1 channel sound w/front audio ports

Thanks!!!!!!!!

The following info maybe helpful to those who want to know more about the motherboards and capabilities of the M9300T and M500T PCs or are using this as a Home Theater setup/want the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner for recording HD/premium content to their PC.

My main reason for purchasing a new computer was for use as a HTPC with the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner for recording HD/premium content. This will be used with a projector system/Home Theater setup I am putting together. Unfortunately ATI doesn't allow us "The end user" to build our own computer and integrate the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner. This needs to be done by a large OEM that has been certified by Comlabs. These PCs come with a special bios and a unique activation key for the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner. Very few Manufacturers/models have the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner option available at a reasonable price. This narrows the selection down to HP or Dell unless you want to buy it from a Home Theater specialty OEM that has prices jacked through the roof! On HP's side it's the M9300T or D5000T and on Dell's side it's the XPS 420. The deal was sweeter on the HP side until the $400 off coupon expired. The XPS 420 has a 20% coupon floating around that?s active till August 1st I believe but that deal is only warm compared to what the XPS 420 had a few months ago.

The major differences between the XPS 420 and the HP models are that Dell uses the newer X38 chipset versus HP's use of the older Intel G33 chipset. Both have the socket 775 for the processor but the G33 chipset will limit you from ever dropping in an Intel Extreme processor down the road if the prices ever become reasonable. I have read on a few forums that you can do some over clocking on the XPS 420 motherboard but I haven?t confirmed that. That may require unlocking the bios features. On the HP side that's not available at least in the bios. If you?re interested in Bluetooth for a wireless keyboard and mouse setup it's available as an option in the configuration on the XPS 420 but not on the two HP models. On the audio side HP uses a very nice Realtek ALC888S on board chip for processing the sound with up to 7.1 channels. It's one of the few motherboards I have seen with a Coaxial SPDIF input for recording from your receiver or other digital source. It also has a Coaxial SPDIF output. ALC888S Specifications
The XPS 420 uses Intel's integrated 7.1 channel High Definition Audio which is also nice. It doesn't have a Coaxial SPDIF input though but has the Coaxial SPDIF output. Intel Hi Def Audio Info All models come with a gig Ethernet port. The XPS20 has an external e-sata port on the back for high speed connectivity of an external hard drive. HP has a similar solution in the front with a slot for their proprietary Personal Media Drive. The HP M9300t has probably one of the best features not available on the more expensive M5000t or Dell XPS 420. When you add the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner as an option on the M9300T you also get an internal TV tuner that also enables the front video composite and S-Video inputs/ That would come in handy for transferring old Hi-8 videos or VHS tapes to your PC. On the HP M5000T the front TV video cannot be selected as an option since there is no internal TV Tuner card included. The XPS 420 is in the same boat since the Dell Xcelerator video input/output is not included. You could always add in a TV Tuner card in the future but you will have to deal with the inputs on the back of that card. Both HP motherboards are capable of doing up to Raid 5 but only the D5000T has 4 hard drive slots. The Dell XPS 420 is limited to Raid 0 or 1 and has .

The motherboards on the HP's are as follows :

M9300t: uses a ASUS IPIBL-LB/HP Benicia-GL8E micro ATX motherboard with an Intel G33

D5000T uses a ASUS IPIBL-TX/HP Burbank-GL8E ATX motherboard with an Intel G33 It's the same board with an extra PCI slot and two extra PCI express slots. The case is larger and may provide better cooling. It also has a larger power supply 460 Watt versus 350 Watt.

The XPS 420 uses the X38 Chipset with a 6-slot BTX motherboard and chassis.
