HP N5190 Laptop PIII 700, 128MB, 10GB, DVD for $1099.00

you guys,
I have the HP N5170 Laptop which is the same machine except its PIII 600 w/64megs of ram and a bit smaller hard drive.

This laptop is EXCELLENT! I havn't used my regular PC in months. The screen is nice size at 1024x768 and the speed is very nice.

Also, HP has win2k drivers for it. I never even booted up windows ME.

Just thought I'd give you my review of it.

nice deal though even though its on back order. i would prefer u get toshiba or presario 1700 if u want one for long run!!!

Just my two cents...when I compared the TFT screens on the HP and Compaq notebooks I thought the HP screen was higher quality for some reason. Anyone else have a similar observation?

firehawk2: weird, because my friend has a 15" TFT on a Compaq 1800 and I thought the HP screen looked better. BTW the HP TFT screens look really good. Maybe the HP you were looking at had an HPA screen.

i am not dum when it comes to laptops

i was looking at i think 3290 or somethign liek that w/ p3-700. and a compaq presario p3-500 w/ 13.3tft. and so me the compaq seemed way crisp and same w/ IBM Thinkpad.

dunno about sony's

I just picked up a refurb Dell Latitude CSx. P3-500, 256MB, 6GB, 13.3" XGA, 24x, 10/100, 56K, hi-capacity Li, 3 year on-site parts and labor for $1329 not including tax. Shipping was $45 for 2nd day, probably all insurance. Dell had a promotion of $300 off all refurb laptops $1500 or more. The ones with price shaded gray on their refurb store website are the ones that qualified (all priced as marked). Dunno if it's still going, this was 2 days ago.

BTW the CSx is the small form-factor Latitude - 4.3 lbs and 1.1" thick, or something close to that.

I have a Sony Viao and I love mine, but CS sucks. They are either clueless or just want to be jerks, I don't know but they weren't real helpful. Can't even get Win 2K on mine *sigh*. Gonna wait till a year is over then load Win 2K or win XP.

I ordered on March 4th and was told they were coming in on Wednesday the 7th. On the
7th I was told it would be Friday the 9th. On the 9th I was told that the shipment was
for Celeron 600s and they refused delivery. The correct model would arrive today, the 14th.
Today the story goes that 150 have shipped to them and will arrive this week. Another 200 will arrive next week. This comes from Justin Tighe, a manager, for what it's worth. Justin can be reached at 1-800-863-3282 x5201.

I would be interested in what they are telling others. At least Justin's story about refusing the incorrect shipment was consistant on separate calls. I'll wait another week since they say half their order has already shipped. These are not the most believable folks.

I ordered on Feb 18 and also haven't gotten it. I've called a total of 3 times since then, but for some reason all the CSR's I talked to always said that they don't have any updates or a new ETA on the laptop (after their original Feb 28 ETA which has come and gone). In fact, the last one I talked to a couple of days ago told me it finally looks like they're not getting ANY from HP so they would have to contact all the customers who pre-ordered and break the bad news!

So...anybody actually received one? I've pretty much given up...

On Wednesday, 3-14, one mangager told me that 150 had already shipped to their warehouse. A different sales rep I have been talking to sent me this message later on Wednesday:

According to this they learned there would be none coming on Tuesday and as of Saturday they still list mine as backordered. I wonder when they will actually send a cancel notice?

It doen't say much for a company when one manager states that a product has been shipped and another states the same day that it will not be coming.
