This is not a bad deal at all. Too bad there isn't a way to pricematch elsewhere because it is a special order.

You have to configure this PC in-store as the OP indicated, but the good news is, you can select other options like CPUs, memory and periferals. There is also a $200 rebate if purchased with an HP monitor, but IMO they are overpriced.

how much would a custom build similar to this cost? (i dont care about the card reader or OS) I wonder if budget PCs are cheaper to self build or get one from the store...

I would not consider purchasing this as a simple budget PC. This is more suitable (perhaps with appropriate options) for special applications like a Media center PC or a POS. There are cheaper ways to get a pre-built budget PC.
