HP Printer Error

Hey everyone! I recently encountered a problem with my printer which is really throwing me for a loop. Hopefully some of you out there can give me a hand, I would definetly appreciate it very much!
Ok, here is the deal. I have a Hewlett Packard Desket 855C printer. Recently I noticed that every few lines, at the very beginning of the line, the printer would randomly print out "*bov". Unfortunately, I didn't, nor do I still have a clue what this means. I tried reinstalling the printer drivers and other little things, but alas, these measures were to no avail. Any suggestions on how this problem can be fixed would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for any help in advance! I look forward to your replies!

does this only happen when you print from a specific program? or does it happen no matter what you do. I had a problem with a greek letters in mathcad printing out a 1" x 8" solid black box when they were in text form. but if I used them in a nontext box in the same place, they printed out fine.

anyhow, my point is, make sure its not the program or a bug in it causing the error.

Hey Guys! Thanks for your replies!

No, I haven't called HP product support as of yet. I was checking out today how I could reach them, however I couldn't seem to find a product support line for Canada, as I live in Toronto, Ontario. If someone out there knows the number I should be calling please, pass it along.

Secondly, it seems to be every program is giving this problem. No matter whether I print out a test page, a file from notepad, or a page of the internet, I always get pretty much the same problem. To test whether it was the printer or not malfunctioning, I hooked it up my Macintosh and printed out a file from Word. There was no problem.

I hope this sheds some light on the situation boys. Once again, thanks for your help!

Run a virus scan? When you reinstalled drivers, did you try wiping them *completely* from registry? How about test pages directly from the printer instead of from the windows util? Do you happen to have a 2nd printer you could hook up to the windows machine and test? Have you tried skimming through the product support boards at the HP site?

I also have the HP 850C, originally designed for win 3.x and updated to win95.
I am presently running win98se and loaded the ver-9.x of this printer. Nothing but headaches for a printer that ran flawlessly in win95. removed printers and used printer driver supplied with win98se and lo and behold it runs beautifully no prob. no tears just great printing.
