That ASUS X202E has a single memory dimm and performance especially in games is sub-par. CPU performance is not that higher and Gaming performance is way low. Power consumption also higher than A4-5000.

AMD A4-5000 vs ASUS X202E (Core i3 3217U)

I had no idea about the forced single channel, but even so, CPU performance is much higher, when in your are limited by ST performance, look at the Java benchmark (more important than accelerated AES for netbooks I think)

power usage is very important if they both use the same battery, I don't know if it's the case.

anyway, I picked that netbook as an example in 60s, just to show that $400 touch enabled 11" is not so "shocking".

Yea, it may be a decent little net book/laptop, whatever class it fits into. It is just being over hyped, especially without even any test data.

Gaming on either is going to be abysmal anyway,

30fps on 720p is fine for casual gaming, but yes you cant game on the core i3 3217U with a single dimm.

Also, for people on the go I strongly believe that encryption (AES) must be the number one priority. You may not care losing your laptop but you don’t want your personal or corporate information/data be handed to anyone else.

Skyrim barely playable at 720p, low settings and BF3 not even close to playable at the same settings. Seems pretty abysmal to me.

question, is it really important to go over 180MB/s on AES encryption for basic protection on netbook with a slow 5400RPM drive? also let's post more:

If you honestly think these are bottom of the barrel, you haven't looked at some other models HP has peddled, or anything from Acer in the last couple of years...

These are the current bottom of the barrel for HP. I wasn't talking about past history. And neither myself nor the OP mentioned Acer.

But for the record I have purchased an Acer craptop in the past - for my son when he was 10.

If I wanted a tablet, I'd buy a tablet. If I wanted a laptop, I'd buy a laptop.

I understand these companies are trying to create a 'niche' and be unique, but I have yet to find any type of compelling reason to buy a touch-screen enabled undersized laptop with an underpowered processor. It's like the worst of all worlds.
I will never use touchscreen on a laptop either. Fingerprints and smudge marks galore. Gross. I'd rather see what is on my monitor and not have to worry about carrying around cleaning supplies, having sweaty hands on hot days, eating by the computer, etc. Touchscreen seems like of just a gimmick for laptop makers to force onto people to make more money. Boot-to-desktop option will be the best thing about Windows 8.1 I think. :awe:
