Did anyone else order this from Office Depot? I'm curious about the stand and clip shown on the microsoftstore.com page for this device in the OP. Mine came in a decent-sized cardboard box, labeled "HP Stream 7", but I don't believe that I received that stand. Is it an optional accessory, or do you get the stand when you order it from MS?

I didn't get the stand either from the MS store. But some are already showing up on amazon.

I've been looking for a "cheap" full x86 win tablet, but everything I've been reading so far has been that these 1gb ram/low capacity tablets are useful for only basic browsing and media at best despite the rest of hardware being capable.

Still waiting for some real world usage reports before I decide.

Don't get mad, just pointing out the facts.

It's the exact SAME processor - Intel Atom Z3735G quad core. MS / HP choose to advertise it at the actual speeds, 1.33 GHz with a turbo boost mode to 1.83 GHz. The Nextbook just advertises the 1.83, a little misleading in my opinion but clearly a successful tactic.

The memory is not upgradable to 64 gigs. The *storage* is upgradable via the micro SD slot. In the description of the Nextbook that is just plain wrong. They both have 1GB DDR3L. Again, the same on both tablets.

Mine will be waiting for me at home when I get off work tomorrow. Looking forward to playing around with it. No real plans on how I'll use it yet though. Mostly reading I think. I'll figure something out

Which would be a better option? This or a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4?

Being limited to the Windows App Store has me a bit wary of the HP Stream although I do like most other things about it.

Test it and make sure it works before you give it to your mom. Save you and your mom lots of headaches.

On a side note, products that use an outdated version of the Citrix DNE network stack add on will break Miracast.

The old Cisco VPN is a prime example.

It depends on the apps that you need. Right now the windows app stores are actually segregated, there is windows app store for desktop and there is windows app store for phones. Even if you got a phone app, you can't use it on your desktop tablet which is really frustrating. I think in the future Microsoft is planning to merge two stores together so that any metro app will work on phone and any phone app will work on metro, but currently that is not the case yet. Point being, the Windows Metro App store is kind of bare. If you want windows tablet and do not care about the apps, the HP stream (or Dell Venue 8 Pro) are good choices. If you rely on apps a lot, you need to do your research first to see if you can get equivalent on Windows. Technically, if you were really desperate, you could run one of the android virtual machines which would allow you to run android apps on a tablet, however last time I tried one, it was slow, made my table run hot, I was also not thrilled about providing my google account password to some third party software company (which you have to do if you want to get access to the google store even if it is through virtual machine) so I uninstalled it. Anyway, long story short, you need to determine if there are must have apps that you need on windows, and then you need to see if they're available. Basically you need to do your own research

Uhh, it's Windows 8.1, on x86. You don't have to use the app store at all. I avoid it. Just download and install programs from the internet, like you normally do.

Looks like the general concensus on these tablets are overall positive from those who received them and published reviews. I think for $99 its hard to go wrong with one of these.

Can it play hearthstone? Anyone know?

The Asus T100 with 2GB was able to play Diablo 3 acceptably, so this should be able to handle Hearthstone which is just a flash game I believe?

The only real complaint I had with the T100 was it took a really long time re-sizing Windows Media Center while playing live HD streams if you changed orientation from portrait to landscape. Like 60 seconds long. Never figured out if it was a problem with the iGPU, single channel RAM or eMMC storage or something that could just be fixed with a firmware update.

Is that the same as this one, Insignia, BestBuy's house brand. Could it be a re-labeled Nextbook?

Important PSA: The Stream 7 appears to ship with desktop magnification set to 125% by default, and not 100%. This means that you don't get the full benefit of the 1280x800 resolution in desktop apps unless you change it.

Posting from mine right now. Awesome little tablet. Really happy with Windows 8.1 as the OS rather than Android or iOS.
