Four HP printers in the last year have failed on me.

What happened to quality control? My HP TI-85 calculator has lasted 14 years.

AND WHY DO I NEED TO DOWNLOAD 29MB OF FILES FOR A 15KB DRIVER?!?!?!!?!?

I need a photo-quality inkjet all-in-one with ethernet support.

The only Canon is the MP800R which has half the scan resolution as the same priced HP.

I looked into Brother but nothing really caught my eye.

I don't understand how HP can be hovering at a 52-week high stock price with the sh!t they put out these days. Their tech support is absolutely laughable.

My price range is $300-500. This should probably go in General Hardware but it started off as a rant so...

Exactly what I was thinking, it's a serious wtf. What is even worse is that they want you to use their crappy HP software, it's such a bunch of bullshit.

HPs Lasers are fine; but they seem compelled to follow the industry rule that says "Inkjets must suck". It's a pity.

Ehhh... Huh?

I need a photo quality printer. All the color laser printers I could find were more than $700.

And what do you mean "learn 2 install printer driver?" Using their installer requires you to use all of their sh!tty software. I tried installing the printer drivers myself (installing the .inf files) but that did not work. It looks like they obfuscate the driver names in order to get you to use their software for installation.

I had never had problems with previous HP printers until the last two years.

Agreed, baked is just thread crapping. High end printers from HP though have the simple and useful printer driver while the cheaper ones are the ones with the crappy software, stupid HP...

That's what I was gonna say.

Anyways, my HP printer is perfectly fine. I've had it for....um....3 years or so? It's just bad luck, happens to everyone (only when I buy a brand that stops working for me I switch to another one, not keep buying the same again)

I need a photo-quality inkjet all-in-one with ethernet support.

Ink-jets with built in ethernet make about as much conceptual sense as a 'warm ice-cube'.

I buy HP 1012 laser for $100, throw a $40 network appliance on them, and service an entire floor with them as a network laser.

their servers are quite solid  though it pains me that they didn't make their new 1U rails backward compatable.
