Just got this email from newegg....

Dear Valued Customer,
We’re pleased to inform you that you are eligible for a very limited-time opportunity to purchase the HP TouchPad tablet.

We have decided that the fairest method of selling our remaining inventory is to offer it to customers who requested an auto-notification, beginning with the earliest auto-notification request received for either model of the HP Touchpad. We are providing you with a limited window of time to purchase one (1) HP TouchPad tablet at the discounted price. Due to limited inventory, we cannot guarantee the availability of your preferred model. We want to make this opportunity available to as many customers as possible, so if you do not take advantage of this opportunity by 5:30pm PDT, 8/30/2011, your opportunity will expire.

Please reply before 5:30pm PDT, 8/30/2011 to this email to indicate your interest in purchasing an HP TouchPad. Include your desired contact phone number and time during the day you are most available. If you reply by this time, we will contact you over the phone to complete the order. Please note, that all sales will be final and Newegg will not issue refunds or exchanges for any reason.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while this decision was made. Newegg is dedicated to offering the best service possible in all situations.

Sincerely,

Newegg.com

To be clear, I'm not saying Android 3.x is perfect. I'm only saying that webOS has a lot of problems right now, and that moving to Android 2.x is just trading one set of problems for another since Android 2.x isn't designed for tablets. 3.x would be the only thing that's an upgrade for the TouchPad in most respects.

I know what you're saying and 3.x Android is WORSE than WebOS 3.0. I don't care if it has more apps and more devs for it, it's junky in comparison. I have hands on experience with a ton of different Android tabs(I had to test browser functionality and user-agent discovery for work). I absolutely would not replace WebOS 3.0 with Android 3.x. It'd be like a step backwards imo.

Also, no issues with my wifi that I've noticed, except that it seems to get really sluggish when I connect to my works wireless. I'm guessing it has to do with the encryption because a few Android 2.x versions I've tried won't connect at all due to the encryption used.

Oh, I wanted to ask. Anyone use Glimpse? I saw it on the 6 pack, but missed my chance at it. It looks pretty sweet, but I'm wary about dropping 5 dollars on software especially since i don't use things like twitter.

Don't get it. I think it's cluttered and not very useful.

So after using this for a few days...
I've decided to sell my tablet. Honestly, I can't help but think how I'd rather have a convertible netbook, and there's plenty of those on ebay for cheap.
Almost everything I want to do is done in the browser, and the webOS browser sucks, I need a platform with a decent browser.

And to use a tablet as an actual productivity device (sans keyboard), I'd want a stylus to jot notes down with. That may be asking a bit much for the price range...

Glimpse, you have different panes (I think it's a 2x3 grid) that can perform different functions. A huge drawback is a limited ability to resize the panes. You can slide them to the left, but you can't adjust any vertical dimension. Some of the widgets don't resize correctly (note the stopwatch). It just strikes me as a poor substitute for real widgets.

For everyone who says the web browser of WebOS sucks... you do have experience with iOS's browser and Androids right? I personally find it much better as I get a complete web experience vs neutered for mobile devices version.

Thanks for the glimpse posts, I don't think I'd find much use out of it and it seems to take away some of the aspects of WebOS I enjoy.

btw Fox5 I totally see your point, it's not the device you are looking for. For me it's simply a media/web portal and it fills that need quite well.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how is the webOS browser any more capable than the others? All 3 use WebKit; the only notable difference is that webOS's is apparently a year out of date and not nearly as fast.

Did everyone get their wifi working out of the box? I can't finish the setup without connecting to a wifi network and it won't find any of them around me. I tried changing my security from WPA2 to WPA to WEP to open and nothing. I can't get past this without setting up wifi.

mine doesn't agree with my router, after about 45 mins i need to manually change the IP address from 192.168.1.12 (switching to .13 when it stops connecting)

Browser on the Touchpad is extremely buggy. That makes it worse than iOS and Android browser by default. The only thing good about it is that you don't have to mess with user agent to get the regular desktop page vs mobile page. But it's way slower than the iOS and Android. The only redeeming quality is Flash support but Android has it too. If iOS browser had Flash support it would be the best by far but since it doesn't Android browser wins by default. WebOS browser is distant third.

WiFi works perfectly on my device. I have Cisco E3000 router. Touchpad has really strong signal and can pickup wifi network lot further out than our iPad 2. I even wifi tethered to my Galaxy S phone today and it worked perfectly. I was able to grab all six HP free apps promo using my phone hotspot.

I got it to work. I went to a friend's house to do the setup using his wifi. Then came back home and it let me connect to my network. All is working now.

Thanks.

So far with the updates it's a great pdf and ppt reader. I just hope the 16 gb goes through with data vision ~.~

there are rumors that HP is jumpstarting production to cover the backlog of orders

the flash support is much better than androids when we put my coworkers new galaxy2 10" against my other coworkers touchpad. Both stock. Also, I have had far less issues with the stock browser(minus the very obvious text tearing) on WebOS than the stock browser on android which crashes all the time or dolphin hd which isn't much better. The iOS browser is superior in terms of performance, but is lacking features which I feel I need to have a more complete experience on the web. Btw my experience is with tabs, not android phones so much as I'm not that up to date on them.

It is pretty nice. I was not in the market for a tablet, but I do like it. Although I do not have much use for it.

It would be nice if this interest in the touchpad and amount of sales started more development for the app store and got webos more used. Maybe hp would reconsider their position on webos devices.

Latest HP update says "Limited quantity of Touchpads will be available 'in a few weeks'".

They'll also be limiting the number people can order.
