So after using this for a few days...
I've decided to sell my tablet. Honestly, I can't help but think how I'd rather have a convertible netbook, and there's plenty of those on ebay for cheap.
Almost everything I want to do is done in the browser, and the webOS browser sucks, I need a platform with a decent browser.

And to use a tablet as an actual productivity device (sans keyboard), I'd want a stylus to jot notes down with. That may be asking a bit much for the price range...

Look at the new Lenovo Thinkpad tablet coming out. It's android though. It comes with stylus.

there's been rumor since the sale started that they'd still be making more as they had contracts for parts/manufacturing capacity and would have to eat those regardless and continuing to manufacture might recoup a bit of that.

For everyone who says the web browser of WebOS sucks... you do have experience with iOS's browser and Androids right? I personally find it much better as I get a complete web experience vs neutered for mobile devices version.

Thanks for the glimpse posts, I don't think I'd find much use out of it and it seems to take away some of the aspects of WebOS I enjoy.

btw Fox5 I totally see your point, it's not the device you are looking for. For me it's simply a media/web portal and it fills that need quite well.

I have an iPad 1, an iPad 2, a nook color, and a hell of a lot of Android phones.

I find the browser on the TouchPad buggy, and woefully out of date. I also find Flash to be a generally crappy experience on mobile devices in general.

The ONLY redeeming feature I've found on the TouchPad are it's speakers.

I gifted mine to a 15 year old after I tweaked the hell out of it.

Pliable, I don't know what to say then. My experience with the flash is much better and I've really only had the browser lock up on me for about 20 seconds twice, never crash. Android browsers are constantly crashing on me.

webOS stock browser is pretty awful. Weird cache issue, can't open links in the background, cards don't load unless you stay focused on them, no organization for bookmarks, text window crawl when you're typing, no text reflow... those are just ones that I've encountered.

Someone started a fix-request thread at precentral.

Amazon instant video works really well... -goes back to watching star trek-

Pretty much mirrors my experience and complaint. The browser needs update badly.

But Flash works well. No complaint there. That's the best part of the browser.

Flash works really well after the fixes.
But the only mobile browser that makes me feel like I have the real web is mobile firefox.
That said, the mobile web offered by the Android browser is quite good. The Pre browser feels like I'm using IE7....

I was using it outside today, actually using it to browse the web, and it worked relatively well. Was able to browse Engadget, watch an HD video full screen on Wifi cooking on the grill, and besides fingerprints and glare, it was nice. However, I did notice when it was in the light there was a dot matrix effect going on...?

Oh, and since I paid $129.99 for my Touchpad from OD, do you think I could get them to match the price to $99.99? I can't find it on their website.

Hmm I thought HP's case allowed you to use the Touchstone without any problems, but it only allows you to use it in portrait mode. :\

finally got mine yesterday. It's annoying slow oob, but following the sticky guide and OC to 1.5ghz it feel a lot more responsive now, still noticeably slower than my wife's GTab though. THe screen is inferior compare to GTab also, I don't know why HP think they can sell it at iPad2 and GTab price point initially, but I got the 32gb for a hundred I have no complaint.

btw while I'm typing this on the Touchpad, the keyboard keeps auto-correcting my words, anyone know how I can turn it off?

Been using mine exclusively in landscape mode with no issues. Can either fold the flap back and have the touchstone charge through two layers, or let the flap just lie out in front of the desk

It's in settings somewhere, don't remember what the shortcut is called. You should be able to figure it out.

The previous posts/links said nothing about the possibility of a 7" TouchPad, or did I miss that?
No, I don't think anyone noted the fact that it was for 7" TouchPads. That said I doubt we'll see such devices - it's one thing to support the 10" TouchPad (since it was a viable retail product, at least for 7 weeks), but the 7" would be a DOA product.

Landscape mode, with the speakers aimed down.

+

I tried it with the whatever-you-call-it button oriented on either side, and it never stated that it was charging. The only time it ever worked was in portrait mode with said button on the bottom.

Maybe I can try moving it around a bit to see if that helps. Maybe it's kind of like my old Logitech wireless mouse that's so old that it needs a lot of fidgeting to get it to start charging!

EDIT:

...or I should make sure it works in landscape without the case on first.

Mine works in landscape mode speakers down HP case on just fine. Never tried portrait mode tho.

Ah, I just mean that in regard to proper testing, it would probably be better to remove the case first to make sure the product works fine without it. There's a chance that my TouchPad is a bit of a dud and maybe the inductive charging doesn't work in landscape mode. I assume there would be separate conductive points for each orientation, so it doesn't sound far-fetched.
