phew... finally got around to reinstalling the touchpad tonight. Its now running the stable build with google apps. However no camera fix in there yet. I dont think I need the camera fix but I will try uninstall / reinstall / update to a newer build that has the camera fix already later.. .

Found this installer a few days back - basically it does most of the install (or uninstall) for you. Have used it for two installs and a couple of removals - works pretty slick.

So finally got around to doing CyanogenMod 10 with JB 4.1.2 on the touchpad.

That was pretty easy and i'm liking it so far. And now I can finally download the apk files from the playstore when I need to convert them for my Z10 I don't have any other andriod devices in the house

Screw using Touchpad as XBMC remote. Install the official XBMC android app and run XBMC on the Touchpad itself. Nice thing about the Touchpad is that it has really loud stereo speakers for a tablet. And that's something you don't find in most tablets. Install your favorite XBMC video/program plugins and enjoy your streaming movies and TV shows on your bed.

ok so I set this up last night. installed XMBC 12.1 onto the Touchpad I can see the share drives on my windows HTPC when I scan for Upnp devices However when I have to browse the folders its credibly slow. I can get the media to play but sometimes have to double tap. The tablet is connected at N 5Ghz and is the only wireless device besides my cell phone on the router.

I'm not sure if the issue is a android + windows thing or XMBC one.

I use SMB shares with XBMC to play my local files. It's fast and I can get proper metadata and artwork for my videos and movies. However, I don't use XBMC Android to stream and play media from my windows HTPC. XBMC 12.1 for Android still doesn't have the proper video hardware acceleration support. I use Dice Player and MX Player on Android to stream videos from my HTPC as it supports video hardware acceleration. I use XBMC on the Touchpad for 1Channel, Navi-X, and live QAM TV streaming from my HDHomerun dual tuner.

I figured out the issue.

Windows was blocking the andrioid tablet in the network sharing area. Once I allowed it and rechecked the sharing permissions on the folders I was able to see the workgroup and the shares. Also my router is causing dropped packets which I noticed when I decided to connect to my AP in another room and the the streaming was quick. I have to go back and test the router when I get home that is most likely just a configuration issue.

I do notice choppy playback when trying to play anything in 720p SD content is fine and was thinking the Touchpad may not have enough power but after going through the rootzwiki site I believe video acceleration isn't enabled on this build. There was a fix which I will try later tonight, if that all fails then I will look at those external players.

Ponyo thanks for the software suggestions. I install both MX and Dice, however Mx doesn't have smb support and only good for local playback.

Dice on the other hand has smb support and now those 720p video's play perfectly.

I still have to test out the other fix I posted above but girlfriend is coming over so will do that another day.

You have to use MX Player in conjunction with file manager like ES Explorer. You can browse your network shares with ES Explorer and then play it with MX Player or any video app you want. With Dice Player you don't need file manager as it can view and play network shares on its own. I used Dice Player exclusively in the past but I now use Dice and MX Player. It seems the development on Dice has pretty much stopped while MX Player keeps adding additional hardware acceleration support. But with Dice and MX Player, you want to add the custom DTS Audio codec as that's missing from the app due to copyright reasons. Adding the custom DTS Audio codec will greatly increase the video playback compatibility. Here's tutorial on how to add custom DTS codec to both apps and download links to the codecs are there as well.
http://www.equisoforum.com/Thread-HOWTO-MKV-DTS-Audio-Codec-for-MX-DICE-Player

The codec file on that page for MX Player is probably outdated and might not work with the newest MX Player version. If that's the case, Google and find the newest version of the codec. The Dice Player codec will probably work since Dice Player hasn't had many updates. Hope this helps.

FYI, using the software I linked to in #83, I can stream a 1080p MKV with DTS audio without issue. You may not have to mess with all of that other stuff.

I tested the newest build of XBMC from your link on the Touchpad and the Galaxy Nexus. Touchpad couldn't play the first 6 videos I tried before giving up. Galaxy Nexus played one out of the six videos correctly. Dice Player played all six videos perfectly on both devices. It's not even a contest on Android. Nothing compares to Dice Player and MX Player when it comes to video playback on Android. I love XBMC but video playback on Android is still terrible. Meanwhile, video playback on XBMC iOS is nearly perfect.
