Yes, it will automatically drop off after some amount of time. The length of time depends on your bank's policy.

FINALLY got my hands on one last night after a crazy weekend of deal-chasing. I read yesterday on SD that some Best Buys would be getting in new shipments yesterday. I called my BB around noon, and they said they got 50 in that morning. They would be handing out tickets all day, and at 7pm, if you had a ticket, you could by a Touchpad. I sent my sister over there (b/c I was at work), and she got me ticket #7. I was able to zip right in a 7pm, pick up my Touchpad, and be on my way in about 3 minutes. If you really want it, wait maybe 30 mins but I would head over there soonish.

I am off today and seriously considered going to the one Best Buy in the Indy metro area that has stock to grab another one for my wife, but I decided it wasn't worth it for a device I've not even seen yet. I figure this is a cheap entry into the tablet market and if I really like it, I can give her my Touchpad and then maybe buy myself the Amazon tablet later.

Well thats teh thing at this point I've spent way too much time and energy. I spent most of the weekend tracking this fucker down and frankly in the greater los angeles area, with over 10 million people here, its stupidly hard to find something like this at times. I remember driving all the way to Oxnard checking stores sunday morning (BBY). Lo behold like everyone else, they sold it saturday night though when I went by BBY earlier werent selling.

Yeah this is one f'd thing. I am sure my onsale / amazon thing wont go through, it says 'delivery estimate 25-30th' but i doubt id see that.

I guess I could go to that store 30 minutes before, so that would mean I can get an hour or so sleep. Its morning rush hour here.. eek!


So last night my gf and I were talking. Its ridiculous that tablets are SO expensive. Consider that you can get a laptop for 300 or lesser brand new. Sure margins are slim but the fact is that even with a higher profit margin on a tablet, it still shouldnt be so much more expensive than a core i5 or core i3 based laptop.

The only good thing to come out of this debacle is that hopefully tablet prices will now drop since nobody is going to be willing to pay 500-600 for one.

Just picked up two HP Touchstone charging docks for $40 each at Office Depot. It's still pricey IMO but much better than the $80 original retail price. I passed on the $30 bluetooth keyboard and $20 case.

man... The ONLY reason why people want something is either:

1) super cheap
2) actually a good product.

1 & 2... with an asterisk next to 2. The hardware platform is probably one of the best specifications out there currently for a tablet. The problem is the software. I'm not saying webOS is bad, but it has ZERO traction in the market. Always has, always will. With HP all but dropping the OS from active internal development, the few developers willing to write apps for it are defecting en masse (especially since Microsoft is giving any published webOS app dev free hardware/software to come do WP7 apps).

Basically, the hardware is only as good as the software you put on it. And the public has basically said webOS is trash in their opinions. Put Android on this thing, then it magically becomes competitive again.

Slickdeals shows a few of those slightly cheaper but you got them its done.

Could be interesting to see what happens with accessories but it depends on inventory. I would think many will be liquidating them once the boom is over.

Walmart is $35 but I figured it was worth $5 extra each not to deal with the hassle having to locate. I don't need a case as I dislike cases in general on any of my electronics and I can always use any Bluetooth keyboard if I ever feel the need. The charging dock is the only item I can't get from third party. Plus it will make for good picture frame display. The dock is the only item worth any value IMO.

Cant argue with it might be the right thing to do as 400K people might buy up the excess as Im not sure anyone is going to be making more of them now. Wish I would know If im getting one to do the same. Congrats.

Woo! Finally got one at BB this morning. Got there at 8:50AM and nobody was in line so I was afraid the online info was wrong or they sold them all last night. Turns out they had 70 for sale today - all 16GB, but that was okay by me. By the time they gave out tickets at 9:45, there were more than 70 people in line.

Thanks to all of you who posted about BB getting more. That led me to check the inventory again (last time I checked yesterday morning it said unavailable) and head right out.

Now it won't hurt so much when I finally get that cancelled notice from Amazon/onsale.

Tablet prices are ridiculous and that's why I haven't gotten one yet -- that, and I wasn't 100% sure how much I'd actually use one. I can afford to throw away $150 because I know that at a minimum, I will use it as an eReader and that's in the same price range as a Kindle but it can do more. There is no way I'd spend $600 on one though unless I had that much in credit card rewards and had absolutely nothing else to use them on.

HP said they will have more in stock late this week, but it seem the auto notify thing will not be used. So hammer it (hp's site). seems like alot of work to me.. but eh..
