Well, screw it. $300 later I have the 32gb, keyboard, case, and touchstone. Based on my fuzzy math I paid ~$70 more than the best deals I could have gotten. Oh well, guess that's what I get for working during the time things were dropping in price.

Still, this is less than half what I paid for the transformer, keyboard, case, and 32gb sd card for the wife so I can't really complain.

Damn, you should've just got a laptop.

Lol at this thread and all threads based on trying to get a touchpad lmao...

Day that this deal was posted on slickdeals it already had like 3500 replies when I saw it and was sold out at all the retailers with the adjusted price. I was on the fence about this thing as I don't really need a tablet so I was like meh and put on a movie to watch. Finished watching the movie, checked back and saw 6000 replies. Checked some more retailers none had it in stock.

Then I remembered that micro center has online holds on products that they don't charge you for until you pick up the item. The price was still $400 when I placed my order that night but I knew that if they didn't drop in price by the time I show up the next morning I can just say no thanks with no charge to my card.

I drive in leisurely that morning since I had to buy a mobo and proc for a build I was doing anyways. Leisurely shopped around and then picked up the touchpad on my way out.

I still chuckle to myself thinking about all these people going crazy, pulling out their hair and reading over 20 threads to try to score one of these in addition to having to wait for shipping. Lol I got this thing 8/20 with no hassle, it was like buying a carton of milk ie how easy it was.

Another funny thing: A friend of a friend came to me and asked to play with my touchpad... because she was getting one. Somehow I'm not seeing that working out either... too late to the game.

So you basically recapped the premise that it's awesome when things go your way when your in the right place at the right time, and it sucks to be other people who miss out on things.

I did get my Touchpad yesterday from Office Depot. I've since spent quite a bit of time playing around with it. I would say that its a very good device and that the main issue is the lack of apps. My Touchpad does have one dead pixel, but I'm not going to tempt fate and try and get it replaced.
In comparison, this is my first tablet device, though I have spent some time with both an ipad and ipad2. I think the touchscreen is easier to use than the ipad, the interface isn't quite as good though.
The quick office app is very useful, as is preader. I also like how there is a gesture booklet included with the box.
From what I've read, some version is linux is already installable on the touchpad. I'm looking forward to any eventual android ports.
All in all, I'm very happy with my purchase and consider it a steal.

Ha, probably. Considering my main use for this is couch/bed/bathroom surfing and trip entertainment device I most likely did overpay.

Oh well, it's fun to play with and overclocking it satisfied my inner nerd. As long as the hardware itself lasts I'll feel like it was a decent expense.

Check out the homebrew apps too, there are a ton of free open source apps available that aren't in the app store. I forgot the exact process I used to make it homebrew capable the other night or what the app is called, but the link was posted in both threads on how to do it. Once it is installed you can view all of the open source apps available, and it updates as more are added.

Dang, I really want a touchstone and am willing to pay a little more for it but the $60+ on ebay is hard to swallow... I might have to make the plunge...

Staples just dropped the touchstone dock to $49.99 today. Sold out online but maybe you're lucky and some stores still have it in stock.

I downloaded it, installed it, ran it, downloaded a book from Amazon and brought it up to read all with no problems at all. Book downloaded in the same blink of an eye as it does with my nook. Not sure what all else it's supposed to do that makes it "blow."

doesn't update books you already own for kindle. only shows books your purchase through that app specifically

?? I was able to hit "sync" and it grabbed all my kindle books I had already purchased. This now means I can access them from my vibrant, touchpad, transformer, and pc.

Might be some left in stores.

Yeah there are some stores in my area with them. However, I paid $61 shipped for one on ebay which is only $6 more than the $55 it would cost me at staples. The gas it would take to get there puts me at only ~$2 difference and my time has to be worth at least that

Thanks anyway for the link. I was briefly tempted to get another but this thing I don't actually need has cost me enough already .

Of course I had my appointment to do the 60k service on my car the day when all the Best Buys around me got their Touchpads in stock, so I am stuck at home with no way to quickly get down to Best Buy.

Thanks for the info, just got back from staples, was able to grab the last one. The case was on sale too so I picked that up. I just need to find a screen protector somewhere for it.

i have to say, the TouchPad is quite a fun little device.

After running a few simple mods on it you really have access to a ton of stuff. I'm VERY satisfied with mine
