HP touchpad tablet $99

Hmmm, the second closest Best Buy to me is showing stock this morning. I am seriously tempted to go pick up another for my wife.

If you were not outside the store at 4am, you aren't getting any of them. At least that has been the way it is around me. It is pretty much "black friday" every day at every BB that has stock listed sometime during the night. Even the ones that didn't have it listed, there are people driving up and waiting, and eventually an employee comes out and announces to them once there is at least 4 or 5 people waiting that they don't have any, and then in another 5-10 minutes someone else has to make the same announcement. There were over 200 people waiting at one store I went to yesterday at 7am....

I've read several reports of people just walking in and getting them believe it or not. This particular BB is in the hood so that might play to my advantage.

At any rate, I'm too lazy to go up there. I have to get busy on some stuff around the house and I'll just live with the one I have since my wife doesn't seem that excited.

I've been reading mixed results on that over on SD. Some are saying what you're saying while others got there crazy early because of it and there was no one else.

I did go to the Best Buy closest to my house on Tuesday evening and the lady said that it was a huge line last weekend though.

You might need another person in line willing to hold a spot for you, that's what people were doing at our best buy. They sell out too quickly to just jump back to the end of the line unfortunately. I got there 10 minutes after they brought them out, and they had 2 cashiers only doing touchpad sales, and the line was still wrapped around the store. You also get the store wanderers that hop in line because they find out that it's a tablet for only $100.

Same here, I feel that it's probably pointless for me to bother since I'll probably miss it by 10 minutes and they will be sold out.

One store near me had 16, they sold out in 30 mins, the other one had 50 they sold out in about an hour. They told me the actual quantity of the order over the phone though (I don't know if that counts employee take-homes or not), and basically said get here fast, first come first serve and only 1 per person.

Have a work conf call at 10AM now. Can't leave the office before that's done and I'm sure everyone will be out of stock by then.

Trying to see if my brother in law is off of work today. The store near him shows stock.

On a side note, I don't remember ever adding my address on the touchpad setup, yet it already knew where I was when I looked on the map (down to my actual house location), do they grab this info from your IP?

Well, I'm assuming they grab your general area via your IP, and then they triangulate your position by mapping out all the WiFi access points nearby.

Yea, there's actual companies that datamine this info and drive through neighborhoods for it.

That's nuts, I mean it asked me if it could plot my location first (I opted for it to warn me first during the initial setup) so I figured, "go ahead, how would it know anyhow?"...sure enough, it knew my exact location, the correct side of the street, the right area of the street. It was as accurate as putting my address in on google maps.

I thought BB opened at 10 and handed out tickets, if any at 9:30. Anyways, you get extras; sign me up.


I went to BB this morning, I got there at 9:10, 20mins before tickets went out. I was 35th on line. They only had received six of them. Person number 15~ or so claimed to have been on line since 8:15 am.


Edit. I just called the store. they said they received about 20. But they only handed out 6 tickets. ugh.

I have friends that work at BBY and I know employees get to nab em. Trucks that might have 150-170 will likely have 50-70 bought buy employees.

They do limit them to 1 per person like customers.
