Q: Will the notification/alert emails go out all at once so everyone has a fair shot?
All those who requested notification have been notified today that more are coming in the future, and will be notified again when more specifics are known.

Q: How does HP plan to address disappointed customers?
All those who requested notification have received a one-time exclusive offer along with their email as our thanks for their patience and loyalty throughout this situation.
Although I signed up for the notification with 2 email addresses, I never got this email. I guess I'll be in the dark when they do come :\

And, just like the free apps HP gave away last week that only lasted 12 hours, I miss out on this "one-time exclusive offer" as well

Did anyone here get the email? What was this exclusive offer they provided?

[EDIT]nvm, I guess all that was offered in the email was a coupon for hp products. I'm still annoyed that I'm likely not going to get the stock notification though. I signed up the first day they offered the notify, and it was a lot of tries to get through, it must not have worked although it stated that it was successful. A lot of people on HP's forums are complaining about the same, this sucks, especially since they turned off the notify option yesterday since they had too many requests.
"We have received an overwhelming number of requests to be notified if the TouchPad is again available for sale. As a result, we have turned off the ability to be notified."

I got it and they are giving:

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your interest in the HP TouchPad and webOS. The overwhelming demand for this product in recent days has made it difficult to fulfill your request at the present time, and we are working to make more available as soon as possible. While we do not yet have specific details, we know it will be at least a few weeks before we have a limited quantity available again. We will keep you informed as we have more specifics that we can communicate, and we encourage you to join the conversation here for the latest information.

In light of this and other recent HP news, we want you to know that we remain committed to you. We will continue to honor our warranties now and in the future. We will continue delivering products that make a difference in your life and we will continue to provide the best possible service to you every day.

We are grateful for your patience and loyalty and to show our gratitude, we are offering you an exclusive one-time opportunity to save an additional amount on all of our products, valid through the end of the day tomorrow, Wednesday, August 31, 2011. You'll save 25% off all printers, ink, HP accessories, and PCs starting at or above $599. To take advantage of this offer, use your unique coupon code xxxxxxxxxx at checkout, and for more information on the details of this offer, please look at the bottom of this email.

Sincerely,

hpdirect.com

Hmm, 7" tablets? HP has a 7" tablet or was that a mistake? I don't see anything in that link about it either... Hhmm

They don't have one, but they planned to release one. It was very clearly stated in the link at least twice:

As first-tier PC brand vendor Hewlett-Packard (HP) has recently halted all its TouchPad projects, upstream suppliers are currently suffering from the component inventory, which is prepared for the production of the upcoming TouchPad including the 7-inch model, according to sources from upstream component players.

The sources pointed out that the inventory level is capable of producing about 100,000 7-inch TouchPads and was originally set to start production at the end of the third quarter, but HP's sudden change of strategy has completely messed up upstream player's schedules.

Unless all of the discount / pre-notify emails haven't gone out already (although HP is stating they have), I think we are out of luck. Some people are suggesting to check your spam folders, I don't have anything in spam on either account. I guess I'll just have to keep refreshing the page and hope they stay true to their word about limiting the orders so I at least have a few minutes to get an order in.

I wonder if spam filtering is messing up the emails. Anyone using Comcast webmail? They have problems with mass emails.

One of mine was gmail, the other was my work email. My gmail account is associated with a webos account though, so maybe that is why I'm not getting it on that account.

Uh huh, you had a link that linked a post with two links, the one that you posted was to the HP Next Bench with questions and answers for HP. How am I supposed to know you were talking about a link from ViRGE. So yeah was a little unclear, regardless 7inch model just goes to show they weren't thinking very clearly from the start on these things.

Well, will someone be so kind as to post the link here when they become available? (after they have ordered theirs of course) :awe:

After reading around, it sounds like a lot of people are not getting the emails, and they won't be available for ordering on the SMB site either. I have a feeling they are just going to email a link and people are going to flood the site.

With all due respect don't you already have 2-3?

I was able to get one from best buy, but I was looking to get one for my mom too. If I can't get it from HP I'll just give her mine though.

I just figured people would share some info here (I let everyone here know they were available from BB right after I got off the phone with them, and even posted the availability links ()). I'm sure someone will post it over at SD as soon as it's available though.

I signed up for the notify the first day it was up, but didn't get the email today with the coupon code. Oh well.

Info on SMB / Small Medium Business orders:
This was posted on SlickDeals after some people talked to CSRs this afternoon. Completely unverified of course, I guess we'll find out tomorrow for sure -

"Anyways, the CSR told me that a mass e-mail would be sent out to the lucky 25k people that made the Monday 8/22/2011 4AM CST cutoff. The lucky ones who made it should get the email by the end of 8/31/2011.

IF YOU DID NOT MAKE THE CUTOFF: You will be getting a slightly different e-mail stating that they are manufacturing another 52K and it will take 6-8 weeks for delivery."

Why is that? Rumor is that Amazon will also release a 10" and a 7" model and other manufacturers might be doing that as well. I kind of agree that it seems silly but there must be a market.

Did anyone get a TP from Datavision?
Other sites have reported order cancellation! bummer!
Confirmed! My order 15651xx was cancelled!

I got an email from DataVision today saying that they probably won't be able to deliver the Touchpads I ordered. If they're not shipped by tomorrow, they'll be refunding my credit card.

Then "On Thursday, September 8, you will be receiving a coupon valued up to $50 directly from eBay for your inconvenience. The unique code will come from eBay directly to your email address registered on file within your account." $50 off $100? $50 off $1000? I hope it's closer to the former, especially since I'm getting multiple "coupons."

I'm starting to wonder if I should regret not selling my 32gb touchpad and buying some other droid tablet with whatever I got out of it. Hmm.

Eh, I like the WebOS anyway I guess, though it really needs Netflix. Other than that I'm not sure I'm really missing anything else. I'm trying to think about what I use on my phone that would be nice to have on a tablet and I can't really think of anything. Movies are the only thing

I find it rather amusing that the company is going to make more units intentionally to lose money on them. I read somewhere they cost roughly $300-$328 to make each unit, so they are going to continue to make a product that they dropped support for to intentionally charge a third of their cost on? Doesn't make much sense from a business standpoint, i wonder if that is actually true or are there some in a factory in China already in the process of being made?

You obviously missed the Bilderberg meetings where they repeatedly discussed the "need" to get these things out to the masses, at any cost. HP simply took one for the team.

Portable devices. I don't watch netflix/hulu on my phone but I can understand the demand. There's tons of people that have A LOT of downtime in their office jobs and actually do watch movies/tv shows at work on their phone. Also, you can easily bring a tablet with you when you travel and don't need the power/bulk of a laptop. Throw your tablet in a folder case and you're good to go.

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/news/2011/08/hp-to-produce-one-last-run-of-touchpads.ars

HP will produce "one last run of TouchPads" to meet the outpouring of demand that came after various outlets began selling the device at a deep discount price of $99 for the 16GB version and $149 for the 32GB version. The company provides no guarantees that the run will be priced so aggressively, but promises the fadeout of webOS hardware will go on as scheduled.

Just 49 days after the TouchPad's launch, HP announced that it planned to stop production on all webOS devices, including the chunky tablet. HP noted that the tablet failed to achieve the expected number two market position following rumors that Best Buy had managed to move less than 10 percent of its TouchPad stock, and wanted HP to take the albatross of a device back.

Once the TouchPad was discontinued, Best Buy, HP, and other outlets priced the forgotten toys starting at $99, a $400 discount from the sale price at launch. Many outlets sold out of the tablet overnight, and would-be customers lamented over the incredible sale they missed, despite the lackluster hardware and defunct (if revered) operating system.

According to a blog post on HP's website, the company will manufacture a "limited quantity" of TouchPads prior to October 31, when the company's fourth fiscal quarter ends. It will be "a few weeks" before the last run becomes available, with no deep discount pricing guaranteed and no information on how large the run will be. Representatives have promised that HP will place an order limit on this set of TouchPads to prevent profiteers buying them in bulk and reselling them on sites like eBay and Craigslist.

YGPM, if you don't need it anymore pass it around. Please do not eBay or Craigslist. Some are selling them for $75.

First HP SMB puts $327 hold for the 2 32GB I ordered August 20th. Noticed that it's put back to my bank account late Tuesday/early Wed. Then I get a e-mail with 25% off code. Today Thursday I notice that $327 is pending. Hopefully that means I'll eventually get them, even if it's an obsolete WebOS tablet. HP Order status shows "partial". Order ID - 43968XX.
