I'd be ok with that if it weren't for all the desperate people actually buying it for 250+ off of ebay. You know most shops are just going to barely undercut that being there is a demand at that price.

I placed an order this last batch when erwin had it for $20 or $30 over, but if it's $100 over forget it.

I wonder if the retailers are also going to be held to the purchase limit that HP mentioned they will be imposing.

I caved and paid $189 shipped. A tad bit higher than I prefer, but with HPs inflated shipping fees, and tax, the gap closes some. Beats ebay prices, I guess.

That BrynaATHP on twitter person has been making statements that SMB is still trying to fulfill orders placed before the 22nd:
- 9/1 - BrynaAtHP on Twitter -
"The US SMB team is working to fulfill orders made prior to Monday, August 22 at 4am CT. Expect an email in the next 48 hrs updating you on delivery dates if you made the cut off time. Sounds like a shipping delay of a few wks."
So by the time they finally get through all the orders, I'll be able to simply buy an off-the-shelf Android tablet for $150, right?

?? To be fair, HP's Home & Home Office offered free shipping on these, as with most of their items, even ink cartridges.

I would not describe free shipping as inflated :\

Most of us wouldn't know that since we never got a chance to order before they sold out. HP small business wasn't cheap though .

No one should pay a markup on these, whether from ebay or somewhere else. They will be readily available for cheap in a few months anyway when those who rushed to buy them because of price gets bored of WebOS or tired of waiting for an Android port that may never come (or end ups too buggy).

Although the ebay "asstrepeneurs" are within their rights to make a buck, I can't believe people are paying over $250 for these. As far as ditching it because I tire of WebOs or can't get a port, I think that is a bit presumptuous. I bought a few for the family and I am quite pleased. Even without an Android port or continued WebOs development, these were hands-down the best deal available. For a fraction of the cost of anything else, it has provided a lot of features. Most notable for me:

Kindle
Web Browser tablet
Video player with very good quality
MP3 player
Video skype with the family (we all have one)

Any one or two of those features make this worth the $99, so don;t assume these are going to be ditched in droves. Hell, for $99, I can hand this to my kid full of movies and not hear from them for hours...

That said, I would absolutely love to get Netflix on this thing. As for mine, when there is a decent Android port, I will definitely give that a shot. Maybe someone will pick up the WebOs torch or HP will dump it to the community. It isn't bad at all, just not worth a $400+ premium.

If the Amazon tablet comes in at $250 this could all be moot anyway.

OTOH I think we have seen what the consumer sell thru price point is.

Got mine for $93. Got the logging to a min and preware installed. Nice device, but lacks lots of apps. No Google+ even with the browser. Hulu works via a patch which is nice, but I want Netflix.

Still, for the price it is a nice device. I hope the nerds get dual booting with Android soon though.

hmm another promo in late october:

http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20110901PD218.html

Hewlett-Packard (HP) plans to launch a second sales promotion for its 9.7-inch TouchPads in late October in an attempt to clear out inventories of components in the supply chain, according to industry sources.

HP originally released orders for 900,000-1.1 million 9.7-inch TouchPads to Inventec and has taken deliveries of 800,000-900,000 units, said the sources, noting that the shipped TouchPads were nearly all sold out after the vendor slashed the tablet's price to US$99.

It seems only ios and android browsers work with google's advanced layouts. For example, even the wp7 browser can only get the basic google+ website.

The Amazon tablet looks disappointing to me. It's OS is a modified old version of android.

They're only using Android as the base underlying of their OS, they've rebuilt everything on top of it on their own without any help from Google. So, in the end it makes no difference what version of Android it is, as it won't look anything like Android 2.2, 2.3, 3.1, or any other version.

but I want Netflix.
Netflix won't run on any of the Linux distributions which has become a broadly funded platform. If it ever appears on iPad then maybe there'll be hope for the TP...

Ok, I just Googled and was surprised to find that there's been an app for netflix on the iPad for months now. I think I know now why there's no netflix on linux. The settlement Intel paid to AMD now comes to mind.

Shite! Now I read that netflix can be had on Android. I got to get out from under that rock once in a while.

I just opened my 32gb this afternoon. Updated web os, killed all logging, and oc'd to 1.5. This thing flies. Best 150 I have ever spent.
