What i still dont get is WHY hp would do this, if they cut the price to 200 and 250 they would most likely have sold just as many tablets (consider the only real competition is in the 350-500 range). I just dont see why they are doing this, and I dont see why they have agreed to pay back people who bought at full price, just seems...strange :\

Skynet.... :hmm:D::'(

It is amazing. How many times have we seen discontinued hardware discounted like this? Typically, manufacturers will discount initially at something like 15% or 20% and gradually increase it to get rid of stock. In this case, HP went right to the bottom line.

fuck.. I am too late... everyone and everything is sold out. I stayed up till 3am last night trying to order from HP.... useless... still couldn't get in on Firefox, internet explorer and chrome....

Fucking bullshit... Oh well, it's not like android is available yet. It will take em plenty of time to hack into this thing. some say they will need to wait as long as October for Ice Cream Sandwich to be released. By then, I'll buy it off of some schmuck whos tired of WebOS.

From what i have heard they are expecting a month for android 2.3.5 AOSP. Then once they get that done they will start honeycomb, if ICS releases before they are done with honeycomb then they will start immediately on an ICS port.

Yikes.

Maybe a kind and generous ATer who bought multiple units would sell me one for a small markup?

Looks like it was a good thing I got here early, guy just came out and handed out cards to reserve one. They only had about 20 total, about 20 people didn't get anything. But now I can wait in my car for the store to open.

I think it was to screw Apple and Google on the way out. People say it's not enough units to make a difference. I disagree. Small thing like this can change people's perception. It just takes one small rock or something like it to snowball into a giant avalanche.

I know I'm out of the tablet market entirely for the next 2 years or so. The low end market just got destroyed. And I don't see people buying Android Honeycomb Tegra2 tablets this year. Sales were bad and this will kill it. Then you'll get flood of these Android tablets like the "10 Galaxy Tab and others getting drastic markdown. Remember quadcore Kal-El and Ice Cream is coming late this year/ early next year. There's going to be millions of unsold Android Tegra2 tablets early next year that have to be unloaded after the Christmas season.

Apple won't be immune. Sure they'll weather the storm better with their premium tablet but $500-600 is going to seem awful expensive. It will just take small drop in sales and one time miss on analyst sales estimate to give Apple stock a nice haircut. That haircut might be $60 billion off of Apple market cap.

Yep scored a 32 gig, they only had 5 of the 16 gig models. I was incorrect in my previous statement they had closer to 30 not 20. Still a whole bunch of unhappy people.
The funny thing is there are still people showing up. It is like a mini BF sale.

Well looks like amazon came through, I was able to snag a 16gig at $99 and $3.99 next day shipping through their lightning deal. I got in at 15% claimed, after literally a minute 100% had been claimed. Crazy.

Dammit...this is why I should never sleep.

The only places still stocking them are those that are still showing the full price, including Newegg.

You've been asleep since Friday? lol
Wow...ok, asleep and not paying sufficiently close attention.

I saw the whole thing about them discontinuing their TouchPad line, but I wasn't expecting this kind of liquidation to occur.:\

Anybody know any leads. All of the stores in my area are out of them. I asked yesterday at staples they said they had none then later I heard they had 5 but were holding for friends. Same crap at Office Depot. I really want one for the old lady to use for a kindle.

Newegg has them in stock for the regular price. You could buy one and gamble that they will adjust the price later.

This great, but turning out into major frustration vendors are adjusting price at random meaning you have to pretty much campout to get some because those obssessed freaks on slick deals will not make it last literally non stop posting and hysteria over there.

I was able to get ship to home order trough BestBuy,but the chances are,it will get canceled. I don't need to have a tablet in all honesty, but for 110$ after tax,it worth just to play around with.

Some people on SD claim to get multiples, some up to 40 units, obviously to resell, but it's hard to predict what the resale value will be,when this is all over.

I don't know. Bestbuy has tons of these things sitting in their warehouses and they are dying to get rid of them. The only folks on SD reporting their orders as cancelled were people who were ordering more than 1 which goes against explicit BB policy on these.

In one of the promo videos by HP, they described a feature as being like "magic".

Sears.com has them in stock, but at full price. It might be possible for them to price match it.

Man, I hope I can find one of these I'll keep updating this thread. It's too bad so many of these are just going to scalpers (check your local CL, it's ridiculous).
