Can I go wrong with this monitor for general computer use? Not much gaming, unless you consider Golden Tee Surfing, word processing, etc. Some video editing of home movies.

Is this a 6-bit panel and "dithers" to 16.7MM colors?

What is the best price this has been had for over the last few months? $309 at CC right now.

Overall general impressions welcomed, as well as other good monitors 22" <$300.

Thanks

Yes, all 22" monitors up to this point are 6-bit (TN). I was shopping for a monitor over the summer and decided on an Acer AL2051W (20" widescreen, 8-bit) after initially looking at the W2207 - I don't regret my choice. As far as I can remember, low $300's would have been a good price at the time.

It had relatively good image quality compared to the other 22's I looked at, but ultimately the fact that it wasn't truly of the same image quality as higher-quality panels steered me away.

Go to an actual store and take a look at the W2207 - this is really the only way to tell if it's right for you. For your purposes, it's probably fine, and its design and build quality are great - I especially like the height adjustment.

I was recently looking for a 22" monitor for every day use including moderate gaming and went with w2207. No complaints thus far. I went into the store and played around with the monitors and was impressed with the HP's colors. Keep in mind that this monitor has a glossy screen and was something that I wanted.

If your focus is on working then don't get it. It's glossy, which can be stressful depending on lighting, and you can't use cleartype because the fonts go all funky and colorful. It's nice for gaming and movies though, great colours as long as you're looking at it from a straight angle, and I mean really straight. Set your chair too low and you'll see the top of the screen go dark...

I bought it back in August and paid ~$500 cdn. It was a little much, but I looked at a lot of others and couldn't find one that I was really happy with. I bought an LG and after being really dissapointed with it, I just gave in and bought the HP and I really like it. I use it for everything... games, movies, school work.

But if you don't like glossy screens, then definitely don't get it. It's fine for me because I don't have any low lights or windows behind me, and it does make the colors stand out a little better. It also has one of the best stands I've seen.

It's arguably one of the best TNs out there.

I like the glossy screens, as they tend to enhance contrast (without retardedness like backlight dimming/brightening), & mask the poor vertical viewing angles somewhat.

It's likely the 22" i'd buy if i was forced to get a 22" TN.

my only complaint would be it's glossy. the panel should be pretty comparible to ones in the Samsung 226bw.

I LOVE my W2207!! Best Stand Evar! The glossy screen is a marvel! And $309 is a great price for one!
