yes, that's what I am doing. Compaq won't replace it for you. You have to go through Staples. they don't give you any hassle at all.


I have one dead pixel but see so many dust behind the screen. I was gonna keep it if there's only one dead pixel but those dust behind the screen is like 5 to 6 dots (grey dots)

dc, no they will pick it up at your location and you don't pay any shipping at all.


They will give you a replacement basically they will order a new one again from Compaq. I don't think it will take too long since it's not built in Taiwan like Presario 900. I think it's build in the US.


If you want, call staples right now, their number is 18003staples option 5 and just explain to them that the screen is defective (dead pixels). They will give you a new order number.

hm, guess i'll give it a few days before i decide if i wanna try getting a replacement. the dead/stuck pixels i have right now aren't that bad, if i get another one, i might get with one with very visible dead pixels. hehe.

dc, are those dead or stuck pixel? Mine is stuck pixel. I was gonna keep it until I realized the dust was all over the screen right at the center of the screen. Is it normal to see screen with lots of dust on it?

Inside it says "Built for You WIRELESS ACCESS OFFER" I'll probably have this sent out Monday along with the Staples rebate and Compaq rebate at the same time. In the meantime, I'll have to live with my USR 802.11b PC Card for $30 I ordered a while back ago. Range I'm not too worried about although I don't particularly like the PC Card solution as my old Linksys card the extruding portion is very flimsy now after pulling it out and sticking it back in as I'm too lazy to use the eject on the notebooks I did use them on. This Compaq has a much nicer eject mechanism so I'd use that. The card that does stick out is a pain in the neck if you have it on your lap and move around alot. If it's on a table or other flat surface it wouldn't make a difference. I also found a picture of the Connection Point CP-2W s it appears to be a wireless AP and switch. It clearly has the LAN 1-4 from the picture. Only problem is you won't hear any reviews of that device or I may opt for that route to replace the AP I currently have

This is a Staples MIR I'm assuming, right?

I know that Staples usually accepts copies of invoice/UPC's but would they really give us TWO rebates? The first $100 and this new $150 MIR?

you should be able to return the notebook, thus giving you a new reciept without acuatly having to return the notebook.. i know its confusing but we do it all the time at staples... i will get more details in the next couple of days..

Here's another stupid question: Where EXACTLY is the UPC? I only had a box where the Compaq came in and the documentation with the software in a folder and that has some numbers. I hope it's not on the Compaq box as that may be trash already.

Curious, I'm afraid that box is potentially worth $200 in rebates my friend. The UPC is on the side of the box that the laptop came in. It has the serial number and bar code label and is situated right next to the fedex label. Can't miss it, only bar codes beside the Fedex ones on the same side.
