LOVE the laptop! I got the base configuration. Wish I had gotten the extended battery but oh well. Still working on getting some of the power management stuff working right under my Linux partition, but I have no complaints. Can't wait to try out the wireless network at my school!

BTW my Staples rebate was originally rejected for lack of UPC (I sent in the photocopy). BUT I emailed the Staples rebate center and they promptly sent me notification that the rebate would indeed be honored. Still have not heard back regarding the Compaq rebate.

Finally got a call about the upgrade, one day after I was supposed to get the laptop. Looks like I'll have to wait for another two weeks, that upgrade better be worth it

Now, here's some interesting stuff. Looks like they're not changing the invoices, does that mean those who got the upgrade will get the ze4101 and an invoice that has the ze1201 on it? If so, how are we going to get the rebates? Hope they'll take care of it...

this is the worst experience i've ever came across.
i called staples at least 10 times now, nothing, bad attitude
finally i called hp today and the nice hp csr managed to 3 way calling -hp-me-staples and instantly, the staples csrs became nicer and promised to call me back tomorrow and give me an exact delivery date..

if no one call, or if the notebook is not delivered by the NEW given date, i'm going to my lawyer and sue the staples.

I can't believe it! This has to be the best purchasing experience I've ever had! Heard a knock on my door this morning and it was the FedEx guy. I couldn't remember ordering anything... ??

Open the priority overnight bag to find my Compaq 1500T wireless module!! HOLY CRAP did that come fast!! I sent in the voucher in early last week! On top of that, my order date was one date PAST the deadline. I figured I'd try just to see if I could get it - sure enough! If I get both the Compaq and Staples rebate back (also past the deadline for the Staples rebate) I'll be even more happy!!!

Total paid @ Staples: $1178.00
Retail price of computer (15" SXVGA+, bigger batt, with DVD/CDRW and 802.11 port): $1,816.00

So far I've saved: $638.00

Looks like I'm getting the 1201 today.

I know some of you who will be getting the ze4101 aren't happy because you already bought SDRAM that only fits the ze1201, or you just wanted the thinner & lighter 1201 machine. SO, if anyone scheduled to get the 4101 would like to trade, please send a Private Message.

I'd prefer to swap with someone locally, in Manhattan or Northern NJ, but will entertain all offers.

If any of you guys want to know the exact date your laptop is going to be delivered here's how:

1. Get your tracking number from the FedEX website (look at tpoj post, 5 posts up)

2. Call FedEX at 1-800-463-3339

3. Choose option 2 to track a package

4. Say or enter your tracking number

5. It will then tell you the status and exact delivery date

well my package was sitting at the airport for more than 24 hours with 2 scans. Now I called and talked to a rep at fedex and they gave me this lame reason, we have no place to load the package. and if it clears customs today you will get it tomorrow. but the automated system says I will get it by tomorrow at 10.30am

Followed the FedEx linky up top. It has an extra "http://" but that's easily fixable. My laptop was shipped on 10/17, and is chilling at the sort facility in Indianapolis, IN. I ordered on the evening of the 28th. Have not recieved any calls about a swap so I have no clue what's coming in the mail!

I think that you will get the 1201 if it is shipped before the 19th, and get the 4101 if shipped on the 19th or after.

Here's a question for all of those who got upgraded to the ZE4101. The ZE1201 and the ZE4101 rebate specifically states "No Product Substitutions", so how are we going to send the rebate in?

I just got my HP today.

The blue lighting is pretty cool and it runs very quiet. I am glad I bought it. The rebate for HP came in the box as well as the certificate for the free floppy drive after rebate coupon. The only thing left is to find the staples $100 rebate form and I am all set.

I am not sure if I like XP yet. I may dump it and go back to win2k?

even though the notebook i got is pretty nice, and price is awesome. This is STILL THE WORST online purchase experience i've had. i will never order stuff from staples again.

i'm sure Dell has received more orders these 2 weeks than the ze1201 deal, but my dell was received within 10 days, BEFORE scheduled delivery which it should be. fedex 2nd day delivery.

i ordered my notebook on 28th and to be scheduled to deliver on 18th, is already a really long time. 20+ days. and even with 20+ days they are late! .. and no tracking number provided. it was really fortunate that some ppl found the way to track them and unselfishly share with us.

But, it is still staples' responsiblity and they failed badly.

It's completely silent. Blue lights look REALLY cool with the other lights off. If you can't find the Staples MIR anywhere else, PM me. I can set you up.

The only thing wrong with the OS on this HP is that HP preloaded SOOO MUCH SH*T!!! I had 3 gigs of stuff right out of the box!!! It's only a 20 gig HD!!! Come on!!! And you can't uninstall most of it. So I decided I'd do a clean WinXP install, with a WinXP disk. It wouldn't take the Product Key on the bottom of the lappy!! I guess HP's product keys are different than OEM! So I had to reinstall using the recovery disks. No option to leave all the BS off!! HP is suck, when it comes to preloading BS.
