Most likely HPShopping; this is really quite a good deal. BTW, upgrade to the XP-M 2400+ because it is a Barton (1.8GHz, 512KB L2).
2200+ is a Tbred: 1.8GHz, 256KB L2.
Mobile XP-M Bartons own, and the lappy also has the pretty good ATi Radeon IGP320-M chipset.

Edit, cache sizes are in kilobytes lol

Their listed price is AFTER rebate price according to the famous * and fine prints explaining what it means~ So make that deal $720.

Okay, I now see there are 2 $100 rebate coupons so after those 2 rebates price would be around $620. The price $799 however already includes the 1st $100 rebate. So the whole deal involves $899 laptop with 2 $100 rebates instead of $799 laptop with 1 $100 rebate. So the deal is still there, you just need to caugh up $100 extra upfront~

You'd better hope you don't have to use HP support because it is pathetic.

How do you know that it has the IGP320-M Chipset?

Thanks!

Amploud, I have a similar system. It's got integrated Radeon 7000 as well, which should clue off the chipset. The Radeon 320M is a really good chipset, one of the best mobile AMD chipsets. BTW the vid will automatically use 64MB ram if you have 256MB or more. It'll use 32MB if you have 128MB ram.

Inonizer,

Thanks for the quick response. From the description, I couldn't tell if it's the 320 or the 340. Is there a big difference? I saw this: LINK and it made me wonder which it was. Thanks again.

Amploud, the 340-M does PC2700. This 320-M was tops last time I read a mobile chipset review. Its memory scores are in the medium to high 1000's (ie some bandwidth taken by video). The system uses PC2100 DDR. However, that does mean that you can more easily pop in $30 256MB 2100 SoDimms into your lappy (2100 SoDimms are not too expensive)

It's pathetic b/c the support is from India and not the USA. So the English is not helpful, if you understand it. At the same time, waiting 30 minutes for some one to get on the phone is even worse. Not only that it takes them 25 minutes just to take your name and address down for RMA. The worse by any standard.

The 2400+ is a Barton, and is the IGP320-M Chipset. I know because I have one. 512 ram, 60Gig HD. If you get in on this, I highly recommend reinstalling windoze, and SP1a. If you use the disks they supply(they really aren't OEM, but retail), do not install the disk library they supply because it jacks up the windoze install. That's how it works with mine. I have XP Pro. It's a decent lappy for the price, and all my rigs have AMD chips. My 2 cents.

Ray5150Ray,

If you have a similar laptop from HP, can you tell me about the Windows XP that comes with it? I hate XP with a passion, and I'd rather install Windows 2000. My point is, I have no need for the XP disc. Do you get the full certificate of authenticity and license with it so it could be sold on Ebay? Or is it just some crappy HP recovery disc-type thing that has no real value?

Thanks!

The disk doesn't have the hologram, it has Hewlet Packard and Windows XP Pro painted on it. But, it is the full retail version. I installed it yesterday on a new drive and checked it when I was finished. It looked the same as the retail version I have on my main rig. Yes, you do get the Cert and license, although I haven't opened mine.

Went for it. What the heck. I got the 2400+, 256DDR-SDRAM, DVD-CDRW Combo drive, 15 Inch Screen, 30GB HD, etc.

Retail Cost: $999
%10 off code: -$100ish
Rebate: -$100ish
Sell included
XP on ebay: -$50ish (hopefully) (Already own a legal copy of Win2000 that's doing nothing!)

Total Cost: $750ish

Not too bad at all. Even better if I can find someone to buy that WordPerfect Suite that comes with it. I have no use for that either.

Well, I got my new lappy a month ago now. Love it! It's my first laptop, so I didn't know what to expect. I have been very pleased! Runs most games I have tried just fine and also does well on most emulators. Also have used it for DVD viewing. It has been a nice addition to my collection of toys! DVD's on a plane! Travelling will never be the same!
