HP ZR24w vs. Dell U2410

I've decided I want to go IPS now because I think my LG227WTG "TN" panel is causing too much eye strain and I want some more pixels (16:10)

I DO Game and I want the better of the two but I'm not finding some definitive answers on that part. I know the Dell has more connections and slightly better color width but the HP is getting great reviews too and I'm a little stuck between the two. Which one would be best for gaming since that is the weak part of IPS technology.

What are others using for General Use and Gaming in the IPS camp? More specifically how about the better option between these two Panels?

The Dell is the max I want to spend so anything more is not an option.

I don't think you can go wrong with either of these two displays. That said, I'm thinking of picking up a 3rd U2410.

Wow, great timing OP! I may be in this very situation shortly. My wife has been eyeing my BenQ and has suggested she may need my screen for work. This would free me up to finally step up to IPS and I have had these 2 screens on my short list.

Anyone feel free to answer... which of these (or another 16:10 aspect LCD) is best for FPS games like BFBC2, because those types are basically all I play? If the answer is "no IPS LCD currently available is suitable for FPS gaming," then I'll tell my wife to scram and get her own screen, ha!

I enjoy the U2410, but I agree that the reviews suggest they are as close as can be. I'd just say get the best deal you can and enjoy.

As for FPS, based on some experience among friends, a 120Hz screen would likely see a better benefit to FPS players as you'll see more frames if your rig can push them out. The 3D is a gimmick, but the refresh rate is a genuine asset.

I found the Dell U2410 for $511.00

Is Provantage a good dealer or is this too good to be true? This seems like a really good price! I'm not logging near the FPS hours I used to but more VMware, Internet and Office work so maybe I should give the Dell a shot for that price.

The HP ZR24w is 100 bucks less, and unless you gotta have the HDMI/RGB out, I see no reason to spend the extra cash on the Dell. The performance difference between the two is negligible.

I have the ZR24W, and at work we use the U2410 & U2711. The Dells show more sparkles from the anti-glare coating. But all are awesome monitors.

That zr24w is going for $425 on hp's website. The u24 is $599. If they are that close it seems like a no brainer to me. I would go with the hp. $175 is a lot of money to a poor guy like myself. If anyone else can chime in on the zr24w that would be great cause $425 for a quality monitor is almost stealing. This would be a nice b-day present to myself.

Anyone know how HP's policy is regarding dead or stuck pixels? The Dell is way more money but they pretty much let you keep swapping until you get an LCD to your satisfaction.

i've had a u2410 for a year now, the monitor is the best lcd i've ever used without a glossy finish which i don't care for. The build quality is exceptional. . .these are professional grade in every aspect. . .hence the price premium. I was at my dentists office and the bastard had a u3011 sitting next to my head for just basic test and imaging for patients. made me cry/plot crime.

Buy the dell, but wait for it to go on sale for 499 like it does so often.

I've purchased through provantage a number of times and I have not had a problem with them.

I found the HP ZR24w for $399.00 + Free Shipping but they are out of stock right now. I also will not use the HDMI or RGB outs so the HP is starting to look better, especially at a flat $400.00

I'll keep looking at reviews and wait for some re-stocking.

I was recently considering getting a ZR24W and discovered it's out of stock at many online retailers. Could it be discontinued?

Have you considered an LG 32LD450? Just over $400 from Amazon and IPS (though it's a panel lottery). Just tossing the idea out there because I recently purchased one myself and it makes my 2707 I spent a grand on a few years ago look like a huge waste of money. Huge thread on avsforums if you want more info.

I'd get a U2410 just because Dell is great when it comes to exchanging the monitor for pretty much any reason.

Can anyone please comment on FPS gaming on either monitor? Any noticeable ghosting or input lag? Both have overdrive I think, though I seem to remember reading the Dell is slightly faster... ?

In their review of the ZR24W, TFTcentral compared it to the Dell and the HP LP2475W (towards the bottom of the page). They state for responsiveness it's very close with the edge going to the Dell. As far as input lag, the edge goes to the ZR24W. In both cases though it is splitting hairs. So it really is a wash as far as which is "better" for gaming in this regard.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_zr24w.htm

Comparing them side by side I doubt any human could "feel" a difference.

I have the ZR24W and am very pleased with it. For gaming, I cannot tell of any delays in responsiveness or input lag. And after calibrating it, the colors are excellent. I chose the HP as I did not want a wide gamut monitor not to mention the fact that it was on sale and at the time over $150 less than the Dell.

i have the u2410 and notice no problems with fps gaming (playing ds2 right now). then again i'm no longer the twitch happy q2 guy anymore that could notice these things. the only minor annoyances i have with the u2410 is the touch button controls and the lag between switching inputs.

i can also say that dell customer service/tech support is great.

but if price is the main driver, 150 difference is huge.

i vote for U2410 but i'm biased, since i have one. it's great for gaming and color reproduction is great for my needs, although i don't do any professional video/photo.

You can pick it up at Office Depot for cheaper than they are selling it at most online e-tailers anyway. I figure I will do it that way, so I can see the product in person before purchasing it.

Out of stock at OD when you try to add it :

The quantity of the item you requested could not be added to your cart.
You requested 1, however, this item is currently out of stock.

I've been gaming on the U2410 for a week, mostly FPS games. I notice no lag. If I did, it would only be because I'm inspecting it, and wouldn't notice it again while gaming.

As for price, there's no reason you should ever pay retail price for the U2410. Check slickdeals.net, Dell promotions constantly show up on there. I have seen two since November. I paid $470 for mine, shipped. During the same time, I saw the ZR24w for $400 on Amazon.
