That could be a very short amount of floor time then as apparently they are also considering a requirement that the speech be germane to the topic under consideration.

Regardless, while eliminating the filibuster entirely would be best this is a vast improvement as it requires:

1) large personal sacrifices by the individual legislators
2) the creation of an endless news cycle of bad press as they must vocally stand in opposition to overwhelmingly popular bills.

As things stand now most people don’t even know the filibusters are happening so they are costless.

I would use this rule in coming years to filibuster a republican bill by spending my time lecturing Congress and the people on the history of the GOP in the 19th through 20th century and their pivot towards segregationist wish fulfilment to shift their voter base, in order to erase the horrors of the Civil Rights moment from those that were most offended, such that the real corporate power of the GOP can continue stealing the wealth of the easily-duped.

It would be germane to any republican bill, of course, because that is all of their bills.

My gut guess would be apathy. Giving up. Why even bother, nothing is ever going to change. Not so much as walking away from dems but walking away from everything. I think.
GQP is so far gone they are not even in the game, dems is the last hope, if that fails, what else is there? Nothing.
Agreed, but we are all in the same boat, not just the minorities. This includes the GQP, even thought they don't realize it, and the ones that do are to stupid to do anything about it and will just sit back and watch the fall of our country.

Why is it that in the rare cases there is actual proof of cheating in elections, it's always the republicans who are doing it?

This asswipe was a state Senator in Florida (of course) until he had to resign 4 years ago in disgrace. Now he's being criminally charged for paying some guy $45,000 to mount a fake candidacy to siphon votes off his dem opponent.

Because they live in an extremely strong alternate reality that prevents them from thinking and acting rationally.

I have no doubt they genuinely believe Democrats cheat in basically every election and never get caught or charged. This makes them think they can commit various types of election fraud and get away with it too. The idea that Democrats don’t get caught because they aren’t doing it is not considered, it’s taken as a matter of faith that they are.

Yes, and the mental gymnastics are amazing. See, they're projecting. They think the dems do it, because they know that's what they would do. Then they decide it's OK for them to do it, because they "know" the dems are doing it.

One high quality GQP specimen:

Of course, he has to make sure that big business get the stimulus, and not the citizens that need it to survive. "Since we couldn't get the money directly to the big business thru the law, we will do all we can to divert it by sabotaging the citizens from getting it." (I quoted the last, because I can't use the sarcasm /s, as it has to much truth in it to be sarcastic)

Companies with forced arbitration clauses should have to give up using the courts to collect their debts. Consumers are cut off from legal relief against shitty company practices by forced arbitration agreements without companies having to give up their rights.

On the HR-1 for the people act, Ted Cruz on a phone call with the American Legislative Exchange Council

---

Newt endorsed no less

---

went full Trumpian... maybe he wants to be Putin's new darling? Anyway, here is what he said ~HR1's only objective is to ensure that Democrats can never again lose another election, house, senate, state legislatures for a century.

He made it very clear that GQP will do *whatever* to kill this bill.

Remember Moscow Mitch'es reaction to dems idea of making voting day a national holiday? "Its a powergrab by the democrats".

The voter-supression is out of the closet, not even trying to hide it anymore. Full fledged anti democracy rhetoric. This message is Putin approved.

Yes, he's exactly right. When Cruz says the GOP can't win if this bill is passed, he is admitting that they can't win without gerrymandering and making it harder for people to vote.

That's why we know this bill must pass.

If only they had a policy. Even a policy that cared about the average American first. They should try that, and run in a free and fare election. Does that sound reasonable? I know it's an insanely radical idea.
