States can run their elections but Congress can override. It's in the Constitution. That's why we no longer have poll taxes. Feds are there to prevent states from violating people's rights.

Poll taxes were eliminated by the 24th amendment.
Article I, Section 4, Clause 1: The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of choosing Senators.
Can it not be argued that 10th amendment basically amended that section and it no longer applies?

How so? The 10th amendment says the federal government has only the powers delegated to it by the Constitution, and control over elections is explicitly delegated to it by the Constitution. Congress has the last word in how elections are run, period.

If I'm not mistaken the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT enacted the 24th. Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas still had the poll tax so the federal government told those states to stop and prohibited others from re-establishing.

Want to see what a hypocrite look like?
Just cause I voted no to the bill, I can still shine some of the PR light on myself ... right?

These people need to be skewered and flayed.

Not even a small attempt to hide the lying.

It's a part of the ginned up, conflated, conspired and connived conservative mindset where it's OK to like the ACA but Obamacare must be reviled and spat on.

The first 10 amendments are the 'Bill of Rights' and were adapted at the same time as the Constitution. Nothing in those first 10 amendments are intended to change the main body of the constitution.

The Senate and Electoral College need to go away or the country needs to split and toss the southern/confederate garbage out of the union. That a DINO from WV, a total basket case if there ever was one, gets to hold up priorities that a majority of the country wants to see implemented not to mention the the states that run the 'financial' union, CA and NY, is just asinine.WV and the Dakotas should have 1/100 of the senators that CA/NY enjoy if that, not have their backward redneck populations' voting power outweigh the much more educated folks by 100x in the other direction.

It's weird how the party of small government decides it desperately needs tons of new federal legislation in very specific areas where there is no significant evidence of a problem. Huh. Wonder why.

"Because it COULD happen!"... lol, funny come from the "anti nanny state" crowd.
Could you imagine if Republicans treated guns the same as voting. If a small handful of fruad cases justify 250 bills limiting voting, how many bills should come out after a high school is shot up?

Nevermind voting is discussed in the constitution far more than guns.

Imagine the outrage if a Democrat said something like that.

How? Democrats are not prepared to use nuclear option to change filibuster rules. There will not be 10 Republicans senator to vote to end filibuster, so how will it pass?
Manchin appears to be willing to nuke the filibuster in all but name, which would be how.

My personal suspicion is that he'll agree to a rule change that makes it not apply to voting rights/election legislation once the GOP obstructs.

He might be willing to change how it's structure but i do not believe he will actually end it. He barely agreed to pass another Covid relief bill, he is more like Republican compare to Democrat. I do not believe much if anything will be passed else by Congress/Senate in the next 2 years. 2022 election for sure will be interesting.

If he changes the structure to requiring people to actually stand up there and talk that ends the filibuster for all intents and purposes.

There is also a question about Kyrsten Sinema , i am not seeing her supporting any changes to reduce filibuster

Each state makes their own rules/law on how their citizens vote. Each state picks the president, so i am asking if federal government can actually set rules on how each state makes up their own voting law?

Yes it has already happened by allowing non land owners to vote, allowing women to vote, then non white to vote.

At one point either during the debate or an interview, Nancy Pelosi says the Republicans will vote no, but take the dough.
