My gf's -initial- home mortgage migrated into HSBC's hands through collapses & mergers. Two re-mortgages and 18 years later, it became evident that the original lien had never been cleared upon re-mortgaging -- not HSBC's fault, as they didn't yet own it. But HSBC, who inherited ownership of that lien, turned this serious problem into a multi-month nightmare with their -repeated- lack of response/assistance, their broken promises, and their varying instructions. It almost seemed a stroke of luck that we were finally put in indirect contact with a US manager who saw the problem to its resolution.
Perhaps their other financial ventures are well-supported and satisfactory, but their off-shore "support" and was -ultra- unsatisfactory -- under-trained, deceitful, uninformative (when they discarded/trashed FAXes) and at one point insulting -- in our case. YMMV. Good luck!
