i have an alpha pal 8045 and a 68CFM Delta, and i was wondering if it would be better to towards the heat sink or away? i have it currently blowing into the heat sink, cos i think it makes more sense that way... but i could use some advice...

i tihnkfor 95 percent of the heatsinks the fan shoudl be blowing on it. go check alpha's website, I think their heatsink is one of those that blow away. not sure though, I know my swiftech deftinaly blows on it. btw, how do you like that loud a$$ delta fan? I have teh delta 60mm that flows at 50.5cfm, boy does it make a difference, it changed my cpu temp from 51C to 39C idle and 55C to 42C under load. i wonder how much louder yours is then mine...

thanks for the advice,
my fan blows extremely loud btw, i am planning on adding a switch to the fan so that i can apply either 12V or 5V, cos i can't imagine what it would be like to have my computer in my apt room next year.. (when school starts again).

It depends on your system. I have an Alpha on my P4 and it cools better with the fan blowing on the hsf even though it was designed to work the other way. Just try it to see what works better.

haha, i would try it both ways, but the alpha+delta combo is just so much of a pain to mount and unmount, but thanks for the advice.

Try 7V.

I have mine blowing IN the AlphaPal8045 using an Enermax Adjustable, and get 48C/37C CPU temps when it's on dial is set to the highest it can go (3,000 RPM). Of course, I have modded my case which has another Enermax Adjustable sucking air outta my case slightly below the CPU/HSF (still very close to it, about 1 inch south!), so technically heat is probably being sucked off my Alpha out the back, while air is being blown onto it simultaneously. Makes for the a killer cooling solution, and if I want peace and quiet I just set the dial to 1,000 RPM if I want to watch a movie, which is still has decent cooling.

I'll test temps with Enermax Adjustable on Alpha blowing OUT, and see if temps rise or fall.
