I have an xp2700 on an abit nf7-s mobo and am unhappy with the stock heatsink and fan. I had wanted to get the THermaltake SIlentboost, but they don't make it anymore with the hydrowave bearing fan(the quiet one).

So, I think i've narrowed down my choices to either the arctic cooling copper silent 2L or the THermalright ALX-800 with either the Panaflo L1A or M1A fan.

Is the TR worth the cost (it's twice as much as the arctic cooling?)

Also, if I do get the TR, which fan would be better? I plan on doing some overclocking with it, but I also want it to be as quiet as possible.

Thanks in advance!

I bought a thermalright SP-97. The HS is a monster. Has 3 very large heatpipes in it. The heatsink is good enough to PASSIVELY cool my Mobile Barton 2500+. Just to keep it cool, I 5 volted a fan to silently keep the air moving. That, in combination with a zalman PSU means no noise!

The SP-97 is a beast and will last you forever. No built in fans, nothing to break down. I use Zalman fans, but I hear that Panaflo fans are better, and Verax are the best(but way too expensive). As far as fans go, thats as much advice I can offer.

Also, check out the reviews online:
This one is specifically for the ALX-800 your looking at

Look I bought the SP-97 for my HTPC, and then I bought a second one for my main workstation. It's a good heatsink, probably the best.

I had looked at that one, but I'm lazy and didn't want to have to remove my mobo to bolt it on.

ANy thoughts on the panaflo L1 v. M1?

Panaflo's are good. I just don't know the difference between the L1 and M1. I would post a seperate thread with the title:

"Panaflo L1, M1 difference?"

You might get better responses.

BTW stay away from thermaltake, their stuff is junk. They have a nick name and it's thermalbreak

Thermalright is the good stuff.

THat's hilarious! Well, it looks as if by default I'm not going TT. Just gotta make this last decision between the TR and the Arctic Cooling. I just don't want to shell out twice as much money if the artcic cooling is good enough.
