HSF's with other than the usual locking mech.

Can anyone recommend a lower priced heatsink/fan with other then the usual retention mechanism? I broke off the middle piece and so need a heatsink with more than just the usual mechanism. The motherboard is an abit kt7a-raid, so does have the 4 motherboard holes. Or the one side has all 3 pieces intact and the broken off side has the outer 2 for heatsinks with clips that go over all 3.

I did read several of the reviews recommended at the top of the section, but those hsf combo's all seem pretty expensive for someone not overclocking. I could just buy a different motherboard instead of putting $50 into a hsf.

i have the alpha 8045 which uses the 4 holes, and my friend has the volcano 7 which uses all 3 clips so i guess you wouldnt need the middle one...

Fatbaby, sorry, but just looking at the clip, doesn't it require the center tab (which is what I broke off)? Or does it hook on some other way than the tab? If that would work and I just don't see how, that would be great.

BigFatCow, the alpha 8045 would be great, but the cheapest I see on pricewatch is $40. I think I'd rather just put that money into a different motherboard. I could find a volcano 7 to see how much that is.

no no no ! don't even consider the v7!!! it uses the center clip like all the other hsfs...

Thanks, fatbaby. I found the volcano 7. Same mechanism that won't work for me now.

Also, thanks for the info on the alpha. Good price, but I think after getting a fan, I'm up to $40 or more, and would rather put the money into a different motherboard.

Taisol. The 733 if you want something cheaper, the 760 if you want top-performance. Their clips hold onto all six lugs around the ZIFF socket. Once it's on, it ain't going anywhere until you take it off.

I used one of these on a 1200 Athlon, no probs-

The a7v had the same problem, broken cleat, and it was for a friend at work who's really cheap.....

ThermalRight AX-7 uses all three tabs on the socket, and can be found for $24 if you do some searching.
