These are very nice subs. I would jump on this deal if I didn't own a SVS sub.

The company says these are designed and engineered in the USA, but where are they manufactured? The name HSU suggests they are Chineese and I try my hardest to support American workers.

I don't know if any speakers are made entirely in the USA. Eminence is maybe the last company, other than some very small specialty brands like for ribbon tweeters, but everybody sources bits from someplace else. Dr Hsu has been in SoCal for a long time, but I am sure gets "parts" from outside the USA just like everybody else.

Its one of the best subs I have ever heard.

You meant the HB-1s? (not the VT-12s, right?)

 I bet it does.

What speakers did you pair up with it? (I hope you don't mind this tangent in your first thread)

Those VT3's with the patented turbo ports look interesting
HSU has been around for a long long time, with a very good reputation.

Yes, I meant the HB-1s. They seem intriguing...

Have you heard anything about the VT-12s? I guess I should dust off my AVS credentials and go take a look for myself...

Don't know anything about the HB-1s.

The VT-12s are supposed to be decent for what they are, a set designed to be very small and have a high WAF (aka bose alternative).

They're going to be most limited when listening to music though I think as you would tend to notice the limitations of the front/center system they have going (it's a bit odd).

Right now I have a mixed bag. You might say I'm rebuilding from the bottom up. Left and right front are an ancient set of large 3-ways with 12" woofers made by Utah (they are probably long out of business by now). They still sound amazingly good considering their age. They were pretty good quality when new.

Center channel and rear surrounds are a cheap set by JBL.

Chiming in to say this is an excellent deal on some great subs...I have an STF-2 paired up with Polk RTi8's and a CSi5 Center Channel...the STF-2 holds it own quite well. Demo "Finding Nemo's Darla Scene" where she taps the tank, it shakes the walls. Good stuff

Are there any other subs that would compare to the STF-2 in this price range (+/- $100)?

At its normal price I would say the SVS PB10, but at 20% off, the HSU seems like quite a good deal.

I couldn't resist - I'm in for an STF-3. Time to finally put my ginormous modded Audiosource SW-Fifteen out to pasture. I'll be pairing it up with my Phase Technology Teatro 7.5VDT fronts, 6.5 center, and 4.5 rears.
