Bought a house about 6 months ago, spent the first month gutting the basement because of mold and now have started to rebuild.
The basement will ultimately be:
* 26'x22' Theater / Bar room setup
* 14'x14' home gym
* 10'x8' bathroom
* 22'x10' laundry / wife craft area
* 20'x15' storage area
Mold crew removed almost everything from the basement.
We ripped out the remaining "studs" since everything was 2x2" and 4' on center.... replaced with XPS foam and Batts and 16" on center 2x4".
There was an addition to the house, and the two basements did not connect... the only way to one was through an outside service door. We cut a 7'x6' hole to connect the two pieces (the right side of the photo)
What was the old closed off side of the basement we now connect to the other part of the basement
We trashed the drop ceiling and went with painting all the joists and mechanicals flat black. So first we moved all the electrical and plumbing into the joists, then painted. Two big reasons why we did this.... 1.) now this space is technically "unfinished" since there is no ceiling = not taxable. 2.) We plan on re-doing the upstairs bathrooms and kitchen next year, so I didn't want to close off the ceiling before that.
Drywall up and projector test fit. We extended the existing bathroom 2' to accommodate the size of the screen I already had and it helped fit a larger soaker tub in the bathroom.
I scrapped my floor standing speakers for in-wall speakers... my wife insisted on "clean" look.
Some paint on the walls really helped it look more finished -
My wife wanted a home gym -
ended up making a 14'x14' gym. Foam mat flooring (faux wood) and a tv and fan. Treadmill being delivered this week. Surprisingly she has actually been using it
Screen is hung and in... I am going to wrap the white frame of the screen in a black vinyl to help it hide. Its a 110" electric screen. Projector is an Epson 8350
Bathroom taking shape - plumber slated to come this Friday and get everything hooked up and the drywaller the following week.
The "bar" side will be the right side of the below photo .... we'll have an "L" shaped cabinet layout in the far corner with a sink, fridge between the cabinets and the TV. For the actual bar we're doing a 36" x 90" rolling island. This way people can sit completely around the bar for cards / games / etc.... then when not in use can just roll out of the way.
Timeline looks to be:
Plumber tomorrow for bathroom
Drywaller following week for bathroom and laundry room.
Then I can install the flooring after that.... followed by cabinets and trim.
Hopefully will be done in 6 weeks!
