OH MY GOSH!!! The 2AM OTA update from verizon bricked everyone's DINC. Guess what...the only way to get your phone back is to perform a factory reset and YOU LOSE EVERYTHING! I called HTC tonight to help because I just had a new baby and have pictures of her on this phone's storage. I was told...sorry, but no other way to get your phone back.

Read more on htc forums

Read more on Verizon forums

Does anyone know of a way to hack the phone's storage (it never powers on fully, just keeps rebooting). I tried to see the storage device while in all modes (recovery, etc.). I can't get to safemode...I'm sure if I could I would be too. I'm not sure how long I can hold out...I don't' want to spend $400 on a new phone (NON-HTC THAT IS) so I'll have to be force to F-Reset soon.

Jason Inofuentes and Anand Shimpi I hope you can research this further for us/me. I'm not sure what if anything you can do...maybe put them on the spot and demand resolution or help educate the community how insensitive HTC has handled this issue directly published by them. UGH!

It's a sad day at my house tonight

I think this is what you need to do... but if you're unsure, post in this thread first. I'm thinking if you can reflash the recovery through hboot then do a USB mount in whatever recovery you install.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1628585

If you can't even access Hboot though then I'm not sure. I don't see anyone on xda mentioning any bricked devices though...I would ask over there. They know better than the verizon forums do. Good luck.

Yet another reason to prefer phones with SD cards.

I'm sorry to hear about this and hope that you're able to recover your photos.

I agree with this 100%. the incredible does have an SD card but unless you set your pictures to go to extsd instead of internal storage things like this have the potential to happen. My Rezound is the same way it has internal storage but I don't use that for anything that is remotely important.

Another good thing you can do is sign up for dropbox and have the app automatically upload pictures as you take them to your dropbox just so you have them in another place.

I had google+ installed to have the pics sent directly to my account, but the phone has a bug where the photo gallery loses all pics/vid. You have to reboot get these back. When you do that the pictures are not new and you have to manually push these in G+. I had a ticket opened with HTC, but no known fix. I back these up to PC but the last two weeks have been with New Born.

I'll research dropbox.

Yeah, dropbox works great for me, not that it helps you now

I would definitely be reaching out to the folks on xda. I can't believe that's been going on for over a month apparently? Pathetic.

Good luck!

So far nothing I've researched allows me to access the storage device without the phone booting up.

I registered on xda_developers and posted. Hopefully we'll get something soon.

OP - your phone is stock so there is not too much you can do. the only thing i can think of is if you can mount your phone as USB when you're in the bootloader or recovery menu, which will gain you access so that you can pull the photos. if you cannot mount as USB, there is nothing you can really do... :/

I talked to HTC - Nothing they can do. Recommend a f.reset

I talked to Verizon - The corporate said we can recover it, take it to the store. Called the store...um not sure why they said that we need it in debug mode. Recommend a f.reset.

I've looked everywhere how this can be done. I can't even get adb to see the device, but even If I could it doesn't look like the files are accessible. I was hoping maybe to put a different boot load/firmware/etc. on here to boot with something that I could bring the storage device up, backup pics/vids and then f.reset. Looks like only f.reset is going to get this working again...SOB!

So can you get into hboot or not?

Yes, I'm in hboot. I have the ADB Driver installed. It shows in Win7 that the device is initiated, but no matter what I do in ADB I can't see the device.

Ok... what you need to do then, is download this:

http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip

put it on the root of your SD card, boot into Hboot, select the update, let it install. Once its done, pull the battery. Now start it up and hold down whatever button it is to try and boot directly into recovery. (or, delete that zip file off your SD card, boot into hboot again, then into recovery from Hboot) I forget how the DInc handles booting up, you may have to do the delete off SDcard method, then into Hboot, then into recovery. Once youre in recovery you should be able to usb mount the internal storage and access it.

The DINC doesn't automatically put your photos on the SD card? Mine always did...

I always ran a custom rom, though.

FFFUUUDDDGGGEEE!!!

He posted at 5pm you posted at 8pm...I was getting mixed results...some said you don't lose this and others said maybe. I trusted this guy because he helped others with the same phone...thought he knew what the heck he was talking about. Another mistake by me and I'm paying for it.

Using stellar phoenix now and I have about 40 minutes left of a deep scan...it's not looking promising.

Coming to grip with lost images & pictures...

I've had good results using Recuva to recover files, if you haven't tried it yet. You should have followed the link I posted in the first place, it was the same as the instructions I gave you. Sorry man

sep,

the way the recovery programs work is if you delete them in Android, it leaves a 0byte file in its place. if you did a factory reset, i dont think there will be any files to recover from as its basically a full wipe of the internal memory. :/
