I'm not sure people realize that HTC (in the sense version at least) provides a fully working bluetooth stack. So that means emails and texts show up in my iDrive

IPhone doesn't have that and afaik neither does the Nexus 5

nova launcher has a double tap to sleep option (empty space on the home screen)

don't really see how it would work inside an app or something

If it works well on the M8, that's a good solution. As long as you want to run Nova.

Wait, you can't double tap to sleep? Only wake? Anybody have this phone can confirm?

That's right. It's a bit annoying, but I find it easier to hit the power button when you're about to put the phone away than when you're just turning it on.

Wow. It's common sense to include double tap to sleep if you're going to provide the wake up function. What is it with HTC...

Mods will probably soon come out to allow double-tap/swipe to sleep. It's been on the M7 Sense for a long time through Sense Toolbox.

Why? And reaching your thumb up onto such a tall phone must be a PITA.

I'd say it's because your hands are already relatively close; when you're just turning the phone on, they're more likely to be toward the bottom of the phone. I would've liked a shorter device, but it's not a deal breaker to me.

iDrive supports iOS fully in emails and text (from what I have read on the BMW forums). I have not gotten texts/emails working on my '13 3 (CIC) with HTC One M7. I also have a Nexus 5, and couldn't get either to work. Oh well...

Just got my M8 today. WOW is this thing impressive. My wife isn't really impressed by tech and even she mentioned "That's a really sexy phone!"

I also picked up the case, but not sure if I'm going to keep it. It's cool and everything, but it feels a bit awkward and makes using the camera difficult.

BTW- Be sure to use the code VERIZON30 to get 30% off the phone AND accessories when ordering!

I thought about it... But going from a 5 inch phone with 1080p display and Snapdragon 800 processor to a 5 inch phone with 1080p display and Snapdragon 801 processor...

Having those front facing speakers are great, but it is a double edged sword too, because of the longer awkward looking (have not yet put my hands on it) size. Just haven't been able to convince myself it's enough of a change to replace my Nexus 5 yet.

And while the One M8 is praised for feeling great in the hand. I also feel like the Nexus 5 was the best feeling phone I've ever owned too. Google/LG did a great job with the material on the back of the Nexus 5.

The shape and the coldness/solidness of the metal body make holding the phone a delight. No worries there.

I'm running a Rom on the m7 that has had tap to wake and double tap functions as well as flick to wake and sleep working for a while. I've had sense 6 running on my current phone for a while. I actually played with an m8 in the store and it runs as smooth as the rom I have on my m7 now. Although the new processor and camera sensors are cool.

I just don't like that they removed the touch buttons yet still kept the space there and didn't use it as part of the screen. But the speakers are defiantly better on the front. Better than any phone I've had.

I want an m8 and I can upgrade but I loose unlimited data. So I heard you order from HTC and buy a micro to nano SIM cutter. When the phone arrives don't turn it on take out the sim and cut it, place it in the m8 and you should still have unlimited data.

Does anybody think this phone will do anything to stop HTC's decline? The more I handle this phone, the more I dislike it. And I was super excited for the keynote last week.

The camera is getting a ton of criticism online. I don't think most consumers care about dual stereo speakers. The phone is noticeably tall and heavy in hand. The bottom bezel sticks out like a sore thumb. I want HTC to do well but I think they are heading for 4 straight declining quarters this year.

I agree with you blair. The M8 does nothing to make me want it, just like the M7 did when I went with the S4 last year. I say that the S5 will stomp all over M8, and HTC will be hurting.

Front facing speakers are superior to any other type for a phone. It's not a real flagship winner because the m7 did that last year. This is nothing but a faster version. S5 isn't going to be anything ground breaking either.

One thing about sense 6 and the m8/m7 is that they are snappy as hell. I'm running an m8 port on my HTC one as of today.

I hate touchwiz and Samsung's os has always been loaded with things making it cumbersome.

I consider the front facing speakers to be a gimmick. Sure, they would be great to have when you use the speakerphone,, but that's the only time I would use them. It's not like the speaker is bad on my S4. I use the speakerphone all the time.

The S5 pretty much solves your hate of touchwiz. It has been toned down a lot. Samsung listened to Google this round.

I use my front speakers a lot comes in handy if I'm in a noisy room and I want to watch a video or like you mentioned talking to others on speaker phone.

I'll have to wait and see for the s5 it still looks the same from an os perspective and I've ran pure aosp Google on my HTC one before so I don't know how much better they will make touchwiz.

Between the M8 and the S5, I personally think the M8 is the better phone by far. Touchwiz is still garbage and adding tons of applications (bloat) that I would hate to have on top of carrier additions (Samsung is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist). The S5 also adds nothing useful onto the S4 (which added nothing really to the S3) - stagnation at it's best much like the iPhone.

The M7/M8's speakers are excellent, best on any phone by far. Sense is far more out of the way (GPE version any one?), leaps and bounds better build quality. It's sad to see HTC in the state it's in, and sad to see the flocks going to S line up for an inferior phone.

What exactly does the S5 offer though? You say the M8 offers nothing special but I can't see anything that special about the S5. I wouldn't underestimate the speakers on the M8, after hearing the speakers on the M7 I have to say they're definitely something worth having on a phone as say sound far better than any other speaker I've heard. Also the headphone output is great, I've only compared it to my Nexus 4 but it blows it away there. The fact that they added back in a sd slot and have seemingly improved the battery life a bit makes it look like a great phone.

Better battery, much better camera, bigger/better screen, much better accessory options, and isn't a freaking brick.

Plus, given sales and awareness levels, it's really "why not the S5" for most prospective buyers.

Indeed. From most of what I'm seeing, the S5 beats the M8 in literally every single category. Thinner, lighter, better screen, more battery life, camera, etc.

Let's wait for more reviews to verify better battery life. It (s5) has more capacity than the M8, so I would think it would correlate to better battery life. Thinner and lighter to me are disadvantages. Up to a certain point you want thin & light, but regardless, the M8 has far better build quality than any phone Samsung puts out today.

Camera wise, cell phones don't take good photos at all - not to replace any sort of professional photography on any level. All they are good for is social media images. After that, give me a device that is meant to be used to take pictures and videos.

I want my phone as thin and light as possible while still giving me enough battery life to last me a day with my usage. It's one of my favorite things about the N5. I also think thin and light appeals to most consumers. Hence why Apple makes the iPhone thinner and lighter every 2 years.

I just don't think most consumers care about how good the speaker is. You obviously don't want a crappy speaker, but I'd bet the majority of consumers listen to music on their headphones or a dedicated speaker (bluetooth) at home. Also I had the S4 Active last year and the speaker was very good. Even if it wasn't M7/M8 good it's very respectable. Plus it appears the One is so large because of those front facing speakers. I don't think the speakers are worth making such a large and heavy phone.

Things like BoomSound and Ultrapixel are not resonating with consumers. That's not why Samsung sales dwarf HTC but it doesn't help.

The thing about Ultrapixel is that is SOUNDS like a great idea but in practice it has not been very good. Meanwhile, the GS4's camera, while not being particularly specatacular, works well in almost all scenarios and then Apple solved the problem by not going as extreme as HTC did (and using dual-LED flash).

As for this current generation, it really feels to me that the flagship phones have moved into Galaxy Note class sizes. It's not, of course, but now I know how those who felt 4.8" phones were too large felt.
