This is what i want for HTC One successor.

Keep the same chassis.
Put a 5" FHD screen with on screen buttons.
Put Snapdragon 800 8974AC.
Put a 3840*2160 back camera,same dimension sensor ( i think that this gives 1.4 micron pixel size).
So QFHD for stills and videos...
Maybe dual flash like iPhone 5s.
Keep everything else the same. (Bigger battery if you can fit it)
A price of 600 euro.

Your thoughts?

evleaks tweeted earlier today that the m8 will have onscreen buttons, first HTC to have them. Maybe we can finally start counting the days until physical buttons die off complete?

This and less HTC Sense and more stock googlish feel. Google Now should be to the left screen like on the Nexus.

* 5 inch screen.
* 1080p or 1440p resolution
* On screen buttons. I actually like capacitive buttons, but since so much of the bezel is already used by speakers and HTC has proven they can't put buttons on a phone in the correct position, on-screen buttons seems like a good idea. And hopefully more apps will take advantage of immersive mode in Android 4.4 to hide those buttons when appropriate.
* Front facing speakers, definitely keep this.
* 3000 mAh battery, enough with the anemic phones.
* micro SD
* Qi wireless charging
* Snapdragon 805 (or better depending how late this comes out).
* Google Play Edition

Realistically, as in things that Htc actually can and might do:

-On screen buttons. I prefer Samsung's hardware button+capacitives, but the One will really benefit from onscreen buttons especially with the changes in 4.4

-Big battery life. Note 2 class battery life. Achieve this with either a large battery, efficiency or both, but just do it

-64GB standard internal flash. I like the flexibility of microSD, but 64GB in every One will make it much less bitter

-8MP Ultrapixel. The idea wasn't bad, but you need 8MP really. Don't regress in any other aspect

-A notification LED you can see from an angle. Putting it in the speaker grill hole was a cool idea but in practice actually really dumb

If they kept everything else like the original One, then this will be great.

Bonus points:
*A PROPER tri-color notification LED
*Qi wireless charging built in
*5" screen without increasing the size of the device
*Dual flash
*Lighter weight

all they need to do is make their screen to device demension ratio more like the moto x.
the moto x is a bit smaller than my moto g which has a 4.5 inch display and its display is 4.7 damn that would be nice

* Google Play Edition

Preferably announced at the same as the rest of the m8 carrier variants. Announcing the m8, with carrier specific launches months apart, then the GPe sku a few months after those are all on shelves, is BS. Do a global, universal launch.

Put the power button on the side. Like the One Max.

Superior notification light. S4 is a good example.

On-screen buttons is confirmed by EV Leaks. That's awesome.

8 MP camera.

A clever and memorable marketing campaign.

That's what Developer's version is for, and flashing Google Play roms.

I actually rather like Sense 5.

My biggest wish would be minimal bezels like the LG G2.
That will be hard to do since they have top and bottom speakers but they do need to minimize those bezels.

Double tab the screen to turn the phone on and off, ala LG's Knock On feature. Every single phone needs to have this feature, it's a no brainer once you try it.

On-Screen buttons, so I can then hide them and bring them up with a swipe gesture.

Bigger battery, a notorious HTC problem. LG fit a massive battery in the G2, there's no reason why HTC can't do the same.

Google Play Edition launched side by side with the regular version.

Honestly I felt the HTC One was the best looking phone I've seen... if only they went with on screen buttons so the phone would look symmetrical on the front with the screen going speaker to speaker. But they messed that up with the black bar on the bottom with hardware buttons.

I mainly want a higher-res Ultrapixel camera with wider dynamic range, so daytime shots are as good as those in low light. Based on leaks, it sounds like at least a very fast autofocus system is in the cards.

Many other features seem to be 'naturals' (Snapdragon 800 or 805, 1080p display, newer version of Android). I'd like to see a bigger battery, and on-screen controls could lead to a more compact design.

I'd argue that a microSD slot is way down on the list of priorities. I'd rather HTC offer 64GB built-in than break up 32GB of contiguous space because someone, somewhere insists on carrying every movie they've ever ripped on a microSD card.

I'm not buying a phone this year, so whatever.

But what HTC needs is a name that embraces continuity and iteration. Stop respinning "One". Call it the Two. Why? Because people need to know that there will be a Three. And a Four.

Instead of iterating their best brand(s) (EVO, Desire), HTC destroyed them by respinning them with confusing as hell adjectives. Meanwhile Samsung went from Galaxy S to Galaxy S2 to Galaxy S3... building their brand power along the way.
