We didn't think it was possible. We thought it was abandoned, left on the side of the road where no one would ever find it. Yet here, through the fog, a light comes shining through: Verizon is actually releasing Ice Cream Sandwich for the HTC Thunderbolt. Assuming that users haven't already thrown theirs into a lake by now.

Thunderbolt owners should be pleased. When it lands, it will be about 395.6MB, so you should probably hop on WiFi. We've reached out to Verizon to find out just when it should be rolling out. When we know, you will.

Yeah, definitely get on WiFi. The battery won't long enough to download 395MB on LTE on a Thunderbolt.

Nah, I'm pretty sure all the early adopters of the Tbolt have donated them to wives and offspring.

Haha.

My wife is lucky. She'll be upgrading from the Tbolt to my SGS3 when I pick up my Note 2 today. Or I guess I'm lucky my wife is fine with hand-me-downs.

We have two Tbolts in the drawer and can't sell them for a dime.

FYI, you also can't upgrade them to the ICS ota without an active SIM card installed.

On a side note, they did remove several bloatware apps, but also added the Verizon spyware app.

Just checking the htc thunderbolt is pretty much the same as the first htc evo but with a little more ram and lte instead of wimax right?

No this is not true. It uses a second generation Snapdragon processor(Evo uses a first gen) and also has a massively more powerful graphics chip than the Evo. It also came with a 32GB microSD card, a SuperLCD display, and significantly better cameras. People are free to hate a phone for whatever weird reason they want but spreading misinformation is never acceptable.

It was a fine phone at the time it just had poor battery life due to the combination of a first gen LTE radio and a regular sized battery. It was then and still is better than phones like the iPhone 4.

Call me crazy, but I thought Snapdragon S2 was a rough equal to the Cortex-A7. Google says Thunderbolt has 768MB of RAM, the iPhone4 was 512MB.

I'd call the Thunderbolt 'better,' but it's not exactly leagues ahead. The RAM is the only real difference. The guts are now powering economy smartphones.

It's still a decent single core phone; I don't quite get the hate. I'm guessing it just had too much hype around its release. ICS should run fine on it.

Still using my thunderdolt. In fact it and tapatalk are the only way I interact with AT forums. Maybe I ought to log in once from my PC to see what kind of sigs you all have, heh.

To me, this is great news. I have this thing rooted, and I'm running a custom ROM called skyraider. Despite the age of this beast, there were some developers over on XDA who had been making ICS roms from the August leak. They were rough, but something was better than nothing. The devs couldn't make a completely smooth and functional ROM though, as the leak was imperfect. I wonder what the'll do now. Hope there's somebody left that cares.

I'm waiting until the end of my contract, which is up in May. Until then, I'll be riding the thunderbolt train. So this is a very welcome bit of news. Funny though, I never thought I'd read about this here instead of XDA.

Holy crap!

If you had asked me for odds at the beginning of the year as whether this update would make it to release, I would have told you to go play the lottery instead. I can't believe they actually bothered to finish it.

Me using the words "just checking" and ending the remark with a "?" means I am spreading misinformation? I was specifically asking for information

Having used the ICS-leak, I'm surprised it wasn't out sooner

I was convinced they had just abandoned it. ICS is a huge step up from GB.

They should have let the thunderbolt just go away, this news just reminds everyone how late HTC is with updates

My comment was directed towards you and some comments that followed your post. Obviously the comment about spreading information wasn't directed at you since you were asking a question.

AFAIK the update doesn't hurt anybody. For people still using the T-bolt (I have one as a backup phone) it is nice to have.
