My HTC Touch Diamond is coming next week for ~$250 CDN w/o contract

I am putting this on prepaid with Rogers as soon as it arrives (I don't use my phone alot for calling, but I want a nice phone to last me a good 3-4 years like my last one did).

Anyone own this phone + how do you like it? Your favorite things about it and tweaks you do?

I am probably going to get the Seido case for the phone if the belt pouch isn't for me.

Where could I get a car charger for this also?

I have the Fuze. I dont like it. Its buggy as hell and very slow. I even put on Manilla and removed all the crap AT&T installs, but its still laggy as shit. I like the keyboard, but compared to my old blackberry, the responsiveness is ridiculous. Sometimes when typing a text, I will have to wait 5 seconds for it to catch up. Its very heavy as well. The camera is nice though.

I had the HTC Touch Diamond international. Make sure you update the firmware to 1.93+ and radio, it will be alot faster.. xda-developer is your friend for this phone.
Recommended tools that you can find at xda:

I won't know the difference between slow and fast, but for 250 I loved the UI

If I was smart I would have went to the states and grabbed a Iphone 2G a couple of years back... but I was a noob

How do I navigate the XDA site... via the wiki or forums? I found the slider answer and that looks great!

I am pretty excited

I have a Diamond and love it. I don't know how the pre-paid works but flashing it to an aftermarket ROM makes a world of difference in both speed and stability. ppcgeeks.com is also a very good site. I am currenty running grooves ROM but have also had good luck with mighty mike's rom. Both from the ppcgeeks site.

Well the Touch Diamond is certainly slow when compared to the N95 but in general it's a slow WinMo device. Newer firmware has made it better, but still it doesnt compare to the new devices like the Pro or the HD with their 288mb RAM... or even the Sony X1. Still it's a sleek phone. I'm waiting for the Touch Diamond 2.

Seems I need a registry editor to do most of those tweaks, otherwise I need cab files to install
I will be playing around with that stuff when I get it.

One thing I want to do (not sure if this is possible):

Build up a Calender w/ events on my Computer and push that to my phone, and if I add something to the phone have it push to computer (when they sync). Does ActiveSync for winmo have a Calender program/utility? Is it tied into Outlook?

Also is it possible to setup a hotmail account with Outlook that could push to my cell phone w/o using data? ie only recieve email data when connected to wifi

The email idea is much less important to me than the Calender idea.

Doing the calender is easy, just use outlook to sync with it. I don't use hotmail but gmail is a piece of cake to set-up. Try microsoft myphone for OTA back-ups.

What procedure do you encounter when using gmail for mail on the phone?

My idea is that I have (hotmail or gmail) setup on the phone to acquire new emails when a Wifi connection is established

I had a Sprint Diamond and traded it for a Sprint Touch Pro. I liked both of them and both are fast and responsive.

Gmail is very easy to set up, it's almost automatic. On Sprint anyway it's easy to check my Gmail automatically as often as I want, either over 3G or wifi.

Lots of people bitch about Winmo phones, but they have more capability than the other smartphones.

have the sprint touch pro, and i think its alright. its definitely the best winmo phone ive used though....i installed a few cabs over at ppcgeeks and its made my experience a hell of a lot better (sprint cleanup cab, slide to answer, black dialer skin, etc) than it was at stock.

I have the HTC Touch HD UK edition being a UK person and all.

Before about 14 days ago, I had not even heard about HTC. If your phone is anything like the Touch HD then you'll have a ball. XDA Devs forum is the best for everything you could ever want for your phone.

I have network unlocked, unbranded and flashed my phone plus ran several tweaks such as modifying cache sizes etc. The phone is now much lighter and faster in its use, so much so that it feels a different beast from when I got it.... and I havent started on any advanced stuff yet

I have been using it for two days now. I really like it... Only seems very slow at startup otherwise it is pretty responsive.

It was already at latest firmware and radio. Got Outlook 2007 to start syncing contacts to the phone. Downloaded slide2answer also. I am going to try syncing emails tonight

I can't believe how small this thing is. It is exceptionally easy to use with stylus, and without it is OK.

Interesting problems with Wifi I had with the phone, I had to set it to "Best Performance" otherwise it would never be able to use the Internet over Wifi (even if connected).

I accidentally used alot of 3G data from the weather feature, I got raped with 10$ of data use! I am calling Rogers to clear that up though. I have since completely removed all links to Rogers data connection to avoid future unwated usage.

I was able to sync my hotmail to the Phone via MSN Live installed on the phone. This downloads emails on Wifi.

I wonder how I can get two modes working, ie update by wifi or via outlook sync from pc.

The main difficulty in doing this is because outlook sync on pc, syncs to hotmail by "outlook connector". So when I sync outlook -> phone, it does not recognize this account for syncing, and also the phone will not recognize the MSN account is the same as the Outlook connected account (so double counting would occur). This is not a huge issue for me but I will keep testing it out.

What firmware and radio did it come in?

I would also recommend touch response to allow vibrate when typing on the keypad. Action button .cab and cleanram. You can also tweak almost the entire phone to your liking with diamond tweak, ACT and TF3d tweak

1.96? or 1.93 firmware... I checked HTC website they have no updates for Rogers Diamond

I'd rather not have the vibrate while I type, I don't feel the need for using battery for some phsyical feedback. It is already pretty easy to hit the keys right
What do action button and cleanram do?

I know about TF3D config, haven't tried it out yet.

action tool is just a shortcut icon style listing that replaces the "phone" shortcut on your home screen with "action" icon. Has stuff like on/off WiFi, Bluetooth, write sms,mms and a few others.

cleanram tool has a few settings,
level 1 - quick purge which closes and refresh your memory
level 2 - resets your memory without actually resetting the phone.
level 3 - haven't tried the others

I'm not sure about the Rogers Diamond version, but the latest one for GSM is 2.03 firmware.

TomTom7 is also very useful for this phone.
You can find the .cab installer file on the XDA website, however no maps are allowed to be posted. With the tt7 installer you are allowed 1 free city map download.
TomTom uses your internal GPS to navigate and does not require a data plan.
