i'm working with a client who's got a sketchy email server and whenever i send multipart MIME encoded emails i receive the plain text version and all the headers in a big messy message.

i'm considering making the email 100% html... is this a problem? do any e-mail clients out there still have a problem with this?

thanks!

I'm sure there are few, pine for example...but the percentage of people that use them is small. On the other hand, the percentage of people that DO have an HTML compacompatible and have it turned off (for security reasons) is probably much higher. On both my work and personal email, i use text only - Partially for security reasons and partially because i dont need to see colors/pictures/etc in an email.

hmmm
good call!

i think i'm better off just sending plain text instead since the whole multipart isn't working...

i'm still waiting on more information on the mail server

thanks!

I only send out plain text e-mail from my server, and in my e-mail client, I only receive in plain text. The reasons I don't accept html e-mail is for security and I don't want to contribute to all the tracking nonsense that everyone seems so intent on doing these days.

good reasons! plus a well-formatted plain text e-mail is usually good enough!

i managed to tweak my functions and now i'm sending only plain text and its working great!

thanks!

Some people hate HTML mail and actively turn it off (since most email exploits are html based)...

Nice site alex, great job! Very clean. Not too much trouble with the portuguese, I can understand most of it. My spanish is moderately okay and portuguese isn't that different. That's the nice thing about latin languages, except french of course.

The major problem is that your html-only message are much more likely to be classified as spam.

People like me can read HTML but choose to nuke html-only mails because they exclusively come from morons (and half.com).

People cannot as easily set up filters. Most filter setups are blind to HTML and work right only on text messages.

I use mutt. I like consoles and terminal windows. I could invoke a browser application to read an html email. But I'd more likely delete it.

I'm happy to receive html emails, so long as it's all just text wrapped in a <pre> block with a monospaced font

i use webmail, pine and Apple Mail 2.0. I only receive mail in text format for security reasons too but, if I trust the source I will (if able) convert the message to html format to make it easier (sometimes) to read. A lot of messages I get have an html version of the message available on line to view, but that doesn't really help if you're using a command line text browser.
