HTPC guides?

Are there any current, up-to-date guides on how to build an HTPC? I am interested in watching dish TV through an HTPC.

Very few if any, HTPC guides cover watching and/or recording from Dish TV.

Dish doesn't want you recording their stuff - unless you use their recorder.

So, I would imagine you can't record in higher than 480P, and that only if the receiver has analog outputs. Would that be enough for you?

No, I will still use the recorder they provided. It won't be stored on the computer. It's just for watching TV through the computer, if that will make the experience any better.

I am using TWC ClearQAM, so can't help you with Dish.

I do the opposite. I stream Internet to my 40" TV. A lot depends on if you want an HDTV card or are you going to just use their box to change the channels. There are a lot of ins and outs of using a compatible TV card. It might be nice if they had a product that was delivered like an IP cabe TV product over the Internet. Everything has its pros and cons.

There might be some DVR's that you can use that have an output on Ethernet to your router so you can use the dvr has a whole house server.
