Fry's has it on sale for $200 with $100 rebate

Warning:
One user has lots of problems (loss of video signal) with another model SD30G2 (power supply?). It periodically zaps the BIOS chip. Clearing the BIOS chip will be a painful experience depending on the severity of the problem.

As usual...one day late...I just picked up all my HTPC parts yesterday on Newegg and this was not one of those parts

Holy cow! I almost want to get one of these... just 'cause!

I've owned quite a few Shuttle systems BITD. I think I had around four of the original SV-24, one with Nforce 2 chipset (forgot model), a few SS-51 (SiS chipset socket 478).

So what else would you need to add to this for a working computer?

-cpu
-memory
-HD
-DVD drive

Yup, thats it...

I had an SV24 and the improved SV25 . There was nothing else like 'em back then!

IIRC the only improvement in the SV25 was support for Tualatin, which I've overcome by using an adaptor.

BTW I still have one SV24... unfortunately the motherboard and PSU are littered with burst caps.

If I weren't a performance/silence nut I'd probably get a SFF.

Good deal for those looking for a SFF.

I did however score a Corsair TX 650W and WD6400AAKS 640GB SATA for about $180 shipped together before $20 in MIRs and the $100 cash back I'll be getting for spending $250 in first 3 months on my CC... so getting a Radeon HD4850 for <= $140AR seems like a tempting proposition for a final upgrade cost of $200 for new PSU/hdd/vid.

I'd jump on this for sure if I had an unused AM2 CPU laying around.
How huch CPU would you need for typical HTPC usage?

Wait, no DVI?

No DVI/HDMI or Optical Audio.

Although for $99 I'm amazed it even has video.

So it's not for me, but it's a smoking hot deal.

If I had a X2 system I would love to shrink it into a XPC

Heh, I still have my voltmodded SV24 in the closet. Like others, though, it has a bunch of bulging and burst caps.

This SFF does have a PCI-E 16x slot, so you could grab one of the newer ATI gfx cards that does audio and video over HDMI to make up for the shortcomings. Throw an HD tuner card in there and you're totally set for a decent MCE/MythTV machine.

Fry's does this deal about once every 3 weeks. That is a heck of a big rebate. Anybody have any luck with it in the past?

Keep your receipt - I got mine OK!
I'm not sure about this new rebate site.

They were... stock. I had one that was as close to complete silence as possible while still having moving parts. I had a Seagate Barracuda IV 80GB drive in the 5¼" drive bay decoupled from the chassis. I removed the PSU 40x10mm fan and also removed the cover from the PSU, and then suspended it horizontally (it is normally vertical) from the bottom of the FDD bay. Since the only place air comes in are the holes in the bottom front of the case, cool air passed under it. I also used a VIA C3 "Ezra" core chip with a passive heatsink on it. I made my own 80-to-60mm fan duct to replace the rear fan (losing the "normal" HDD bay and the PCI riser card area) and used an NMB fan that barely spins.

Though a heck of a deal, I'm passing for now. Too many little projects on my plate right now (modding some mATX cases) and yeah, that rebate is pretty stiff.
