Yeah, pretty sad.pointless notch and no headphone jack, no thanks.
not to mention you get the worst support if something goes wrong. Never again after Nexus 6P.pointless notch and no headphone jack, no thanks.

Yeah, pretty sad.
It's almost like Huawei's answer to not being nearly as relevant outside of China as they initially hoped, is just to jump on the current "me too! me too!" bandwagons of removed features and copy everything Apple does.
I know Apple didn't invent 'the notch' but I think they've popularized it and now others are copying it mostly from Apple. I hope the whole notch idea dies a quick death in 2018. The look of them is a backward progression to me.
And yes, I know the Huawei phone has a software mode that fills the notch black to appear its not there. That just begs the question... why not that design in the first place? People are actually clamoring for that ugly wasted screen space around the notch? Who?
That argument for the side bezels has been relevant for years. The side bezels really were wasted space. Why design the phone to have extra wasted bezel when you can have extra screen space instead?

Top bezels I'd say much less so because they can actually serve a function, such as house sensors, cameras, speakers.
The notch idea (IMO) is just backward and aesthetically displeasing. Makes the phone look unbalanced to me. It's a bad compromise design IMO.
As for function of the space around the notch.. most of the time status bar is displaying more information than would fit shoved to just the sides. I'd have to have another full statusbar anyway or settle for less information. Either would be a rotten compromise for me so I'd really gain nothing from the supposed 'extra' space.
Like I said, I personally hope notches die off quickly.
I guess you missed where I said it wouldn't handle the the function of my actual statusbar...therefore NOT really extra space. I'd need another status bar below the 'half ass notch status bar... defeating the purpose, looking twice as fugly... same amount of screen real estate anyway to keep the same function. No thanks.
I also don't like how some full screen things render with the notch chopped out. I saw some things where the notch blocks scroll bars and some screen elements or just forces a misbalanced screen (again nothing gained if usable screen ends at the line of the notch anyway).
Classic example IMO of less is actually MORE. Far prefer a design and layout without the notch because there isn't actually a scenario where it really provides more ... not even for status bar function, really its ONLY function.
it FAILS the 'whole point' which is clearly the point you missed. I've pointed it out several times.Well the whole point of the screen on either side of the notch is to house your status bar icons so that there is more screen for your actual content.

My statusbar displays all my network connections (wifi and mobile bars) status of bluetooth, GPS, volume, battery percentage icon, time AM/PM etc. It also shows notification status of apps I allow. I don't want less info displayed to accomodate a stupid notch. So having one gains NOTHING, it would actually lose information from my screen, or as I said require another statusbar anyway to show all the information ie: WHAT'S THE POINT!?
The problems in landscape as I said are even worse. That notch out of the side of apps I use (or everything being scrunched to end as if the notch was just a solid bar as it should be anyway- are just rotten compromises to a 'problem' that didn't need a half-assed non-solution in the first place. I think it's dreadful design and a classic case of 'more' being far less as there's not a single decent upside (a HALF-ASSED statusbar is NOT an upside) and all downsides (ugly, weird landscape issues, etc.)
Anyway, this thread is about the LG phones. We all know if the iPhoneX didn't have the notch and the LG did, you'd likely be laughing the loudest at it and pointing out what terrible design it is.
Nah, my phone isn't just a series of bad compromises to accommodate someone else's 'I know what's best for you' half assed design choices.
Don't need to render my status bar half useless because there isn't s big honking piece of bezel down blocking it by a cheat of a design flaw.
Yeah keep telling yourself that. Kind of like how I'm missing out on NOT having 256GB of extra storage internally, a headphone jack, smaller bezels, wireless charging since 2014 or so, etc.
Now Im "missing out" on not having a big ugly, useless chunk taken out of my screen!
Lol! Your 'choice' is exactly ONE and limited even more every time one man (jony Ive) has another rotten idea he can't design his way past. But he knows what's best for you.The best phones on the market are locked out to you because of your inability to adapt and change. You’ll only get left further and further behind as time goes on.
Exactly. Love my very usable Note 8 and S9+Lol! Your 'choice' is exactly ONE and limited even more every time one man (jony Ive) has another rotten idea he can't design his way past. But he knows what's best for you.
The Note 8 is still the best phone on the market and will continue to be until the Note 9 comes along hopefully without any dumb 'copy Apple!' non-features. Coming close so far is the s9.
IMO Huawei is out of the running so long as they do stupid stuff like notches and removing features.
I'll say it. Any phone without a headphone jack and decent removable storage isn't really a smartphone. It's a 'follow your corporate masters' phone.
