Newman went on to call out the subtle racism of his neighbors, who purport to be progressive and inclusive but have yet to acknowledge the fact that Charlottesville is, by his estimation, “the most aggressively segregated place” he’s ever lived in.

The farmer recounted that he’s been racially profiled and questioned by police several times after receiving “strange looks from a passerby.”

“It isn’t Richard Spencer calling the cops on me for farming while Black,” Newman wrote. “It’s nervous White women in yoga pants with ‘I’m with her’ and ‘Coexist’ stickers on their German SUVs.”

The farmer went on to suggest that residents of the town who are interested in racial progress should consider how to effect change in their own everyday lives.

“People are so busy going after that easy fix, going after that Confederate flag, that they’re not doing the hard thing, which is thinking, how did we get here, and how the hell do we dig out of institutional racism,” Newman wrote.

There's one important distinction, Svnla: liberals aren't the ones trying to enshrine racism in government policy.

Everyone has to be mindful of their attitude toward others, regardless of their political leanings... but there's a difference between being nervous around non-white people and, say, intentionally neutering the voting power of minorities.

I actually agree with what Newman is saying about digging out of institutional racism, but it seems to me that the flaw in his argument is where he correlates his mistreatment at the hands of local police to be the fault of 'liberal racists.' That just doesn't seem to add up. How does he know that the white woman in the Audi SUV with the Coexist sticker was the one who called the police? And if even if he somehow knows that, how does he know that the motivation was racism and not classism?
Like I said, doesn't add up. Too many assumptions required.

Edit: ugh, I read the actual FB post and what a load of victimhood BS. The reason that this guy likes Spencer is because he's his black counterpart, with similarly illiberal ideas. All his problems are always somebody else's fault..

Anyway, the OP is misconstruing Mr. Newman's genuinely valid point (IMO), which is that the subtle passive racism institutionalized into our society is worse than the in-your-face blatant racism from clowns like Spencer. But only because the former is far more prevalent than the latter, and not because there's anything good about Spencer and his ilk.
I do, however, still disagree with Mr Newman's blaming of white liberals for the actions of the police (sorry, but I do see that as paranoid), and I disagree strongly with his rant on cultural appropriation. His point on the local media is probably valid though.
